Just wanted to say thanks to all of you who are posting the mod info. Every bit and morsel is helpful. I'm beginning to wonder if I can wait to get to WA before getting started. Nobiman's post really pumps me up because I'm 210 and looking for a little more show when I'm off-road. I'm used to riding two strokes so this has been quite an adjustment.
Here's a shot from a quick trip my wife and I took the other day. If you look you can see the road in the background. I'm really struggling to find places to ride here. This was a nifty little 4-wheeler trail that went off into the woods a ways.
My two favorite things in the world... my wife and my bike! View attachment 69031 This was taken on the Missouri river dam at Yankton, SD.
I got the Muzzy system installed and jet kit put in. I was expecting it ot be louder, but wow... she really rips. FOr me the performance increase wasn;t huge because I had alreayd doen the free mods and re-jetted the bike before, but there is still yet another level of performance to be had by adding he full exhaust system. The best part is the sound. The stock exhaust sounds a little more like a scooter or lawn equipment. Drilling out the last baffle plate, helped, but nothing prepared me for the roar of the Muzzy. Shooting out of every turn puts a big smile on your face. The biggest problem is keeping up with the shifts in 1st, 2nd & 3rd before it hits redline. I have 13/42 gearing now. with 13/45, I'll probably stop even using 1st gear altogether on the street. It's kind of like the "Low" range on a truck transfer case. Great whch you need to go 2mph and not use the clutch. The Mussy really helps the top end. My seat of hte pants Dyno says there's very little drop in power above 9000 until just before redline, when before the bike felt a little wheezy over 9000 or even 8000. The real meat is 7000 to redline. Keep it there and she really sings. The tranny is spaced perfectly for that. The mods I've mde were definitely worth the money. Now I just have to wait unitl May when the ATV/off road parks open to really test of the trail worthiness and supension.
Nice pics Navyman! We spent most of the day today at a facility that has a Moto-X track and a Cross Country track all at one location and put some much needed time on the bikes. Here's a couple of pics from our day too. Our bikes:
I had a rough time with this(blood and all) because I wasn't smart enough to do it while I had the carb off. I removed the rubber boot between the carb and airbox, and covered the intake of the carb. I would highly recommend your method over trying to do it from the inside of the airbox. The extra 5 minutes to remove the carb would have saved 20, and some blood.
I have about 200 miles on the Muzzy. Love the hell out of it. The rep at Muzzy said it would get quieter after the packing expanded in the can. I haven't noticed a real change in sound. If so, subtle and maybe more refined. After my first short ride, I was afraid it would lose some of the great sound. Hasn't yet, and it's not going to....................
Yea, its not too loud IMO. We've got about 2 hours on the system so far, I do have the quiet core also but we wont put it in unless we're at a location that requires it. Gotta go, we're gonna go put some miles on the street bike this afternoon. And no, she wont be riding dressed like this! Have a good weekend all! Randy.
You must be in a much warmer part of the country if that shot is current - Brrr! Did you have any trouble bottoming the KLX on a jump now that you've lowered it?
Navyman when you get to the GreatNW be sure to PM me; there are plenty of hills around here we can find- I live just south of Olympia and drive to McChord. does anyone have any pictures of the stock pipe drilled out? I'm thinking of going this route for now- thanks!
Sounds great Wedge. I am from Idaho originally so I love the NW. I am looking forward to putting in a few seriously fun rides before the snow flies - does the snow fly there? I've heard there are places in WA that it doesn't. I'll PM you as we get closer - I project July/August, but I will be on the Navy's schedule again so it might vary a bit.
