Since 1974 the FEDS have decreed which sides the throttle, clutch, rear brake and shifter are on. Prior to that, H-D Sportsters shifted on the right (like their British competitors) and H-D big twins shifted on the left. Indians had left hand throttles, but could be moved to the right if desired. To sell to a PD that had Indians, Harley was known to outfit bikes with left hand throttles, too. This was in the hand-shift, foot clutch days. shupe
Now that is one sharp looking naked bike! It makes me knowing that the U.S. won't be getting the Red bikes this year, they look sharp! Add a center-stand and windscreen/luggage for longer trips and I'm all over it! I would buy the 500x, but I'm thinking the price difference will be significant. -Jake
Only £300 here, if that's relevant. As I understand it, extras are the same across the range (hard luggage, c/stand, h/grips, higher shield, extra lighting).
We needn't worry about clutch handles and brakes moving around. The Federal Highway Safety Act of 1966 standardized major controls on motor vehicles sold in the US. It took several years to implement the provisions but this legislation did away with various hand and foot control locations common to brands or country of origin. The Act did not cover position of lighting and horn controls so these do vary between brands and models - and variation is the spice of life. Since you mentioned BMW note that they had horn over turn signal from the 70's until the early 90's, then a separate left and right with a single cancel button from first oilheads of 1993, then the K1300 (??) several model years back switched to your so-called "standard" arrangement of horn under turn signal. The latter has caused much grief to the party faithful who lament "giving in" to the so-called "Japanese" standard. Now Honda is changing back to horn over turn signal that they had in the 70's and 80s.
192kg.. hm.. that's considerably lighter then the NC700X (or S), and having the same power.. well.. this thing should be faster then the NC700 series! Just wanna feel the vibes, I'm really dissappointed they didn't do the 270 crank thing on it, but they probably know what they're doing. One interesting price-wise development here in EU (well, Croatia at least). The CB500X and NC700X are $3 apart in price. That's not good.
NC700X = 55.884,15 kn = $9.838,76 CB500X = 55.900,00 kn = $9.841,55 It's actually $2,79. :huh And yeah, the 500 is more expensive! CB500F vs NC700S is about $150 (500 is cheaper). Really don't understand the pricing..
same here !!! so sick of all black bikes i could puke. so what else do we get,the total opposite of black-white. c'mon honda you can't kick off a new model with 3 colors to see what sells best and decide from there ! really like this model but it does'nt stand a chance in the colors their offering.
i want my X in white, but i know it won't be released here for a while in white.. so flat black it is.. all can be cured with spraypaint. hahahaa.
I went to the Chicago show, looked at everything from everybody, and if I were in the market for a new bike it would be the CB500X hands down (especially if the price is about the same as the F). Loved the looks, the ergos were perfect for me (5'9" or so with relatively long arms and legs), and I think 500cc is the sweet spot for displacement. Unfortunately I'm not in the market. But my wife fell in love with the F, so we may be haunting the Honda dealer yet...
