[SIZE=-1]2013 FIM Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix Iveco TT Assen - Decision of the Race Direction

In the MotoGP class QP1 qualifying session of the Iveco TT Assen, rider Hector Barbera (ESP) was judged to have impeded the progress of rider Andrea Dovisioso (ITA) during his first lap out of the pits with new tyres. Barbera rode on the racing line not allowing Dovisioso to pass through two turns. This was deemed to be riding in an irresponsible manner. This is an infringement of Article 1.21.2 of the Grand Prix regulations. The Race Direction has imposed one penalty point on Hector Barbera.

Following the same incident, Andrea Dovisioso kicked at Hector Barbera. This was judged to be an action prejudicial to the interests of the sport, and according to Article 3.3.1.2 of the Grand Prix regulations Race Direction has imposed one penalty point on Andrea Dovisioso.
    No appeal was lodged.

The decision of the Race Direction is final.

If he crashes again and aggravates the injury it'll be tragic...

Can he start from pit lane with engine n+1 without having used all of his allocated engines already? As others have suggested, lining up in pit lane, riding one lap, and then parking it (unless half the field crashes out on lap 1 and he thinks he can ride for points) would seem a pretty reasonable course of action...and I'm sure that someone at Yamaha Racing has already considered it.

This is, of course, assuming he can ride at all. I suspect that just about anyone on that grid is capable of making a lap without putting weight on one shoulder or the other for its duration, but he would need clearance from the medical types, too.

    Krop, others,....

What does the medical clearance involve?

IIRC a certain amount of weight must be lifted with both or each arm?

    What else is involved?

No. He would have to seal 2 engines to do that, # 5 and #6. Makes it seem less likely.

    Jorge posted this tonight.

Each rider is allowed 5 engines to use for the season. They are submitted to tech inspection and sealed for the season. They start the season with 2 engines in play, for their two bikes they will race and practice with.

As the season progresses, they submit and seal new engines to be put into use.

It has been big news that Yamaha has already sealed 4 of 5 engines for the season and we are not even half way through. So, the speculation is that Yamaha will need more than 5 engines to make it through the season.

What is being suggested is that Jorge take this opportunity to have engines 5 and 6 sealed. The penalty for each engine over the 5 engine limit is, you must start from pit lane for the race in which the extra engine is introduced.

Since Jorge is injured and possibly not able to be competitive in, or maybe even complete, the race tomorrow it is being suggested he take his pit lane start penalty and then pull in early. Effectively giving him an extra engine to use.

Make sense? Not sure I 'splained it to well. :shog

It'll be impressive, sure. He may only be lining up because Pedrosa is already in his head (if it happens, that is), and if he falls on it again, he may not be ready for Sachsenring.

If he really races, it'll be the kind of desperation play Pedrosa tried at Phillip Island last year, when he tried to stay ahead of both Lorenzo and Stoner when there was little chance of success; the Pedrosa thing made more sense, because it was so tight so near the end of the season.

Unless of course Lorenzo is just going to bring out a new engine and park it.
