Safari Tanks ROCK !!

I've seen three.

One had just some lettering added. The other two were full jobs. I too didn't beleive it till I saw it.

There is a post buried in here somewhere where the guy explains that the black tanks are made of a different plastic that takes paint.

Here's the one, but if I remember right this one is not the owner who made the comments.

It seems this might be a bit of an orange thread. I have just fitted one of these to my Husky TE 630 and was wondering how well do stickers etc adhere to the tank.

.ps would have gone orange to but the husky deal was to good to pass up

The stickers may/may not adhere fine, for a while.....
but paint and/or stickers would just get all scratched off flying through brush-covered and untrimmed old dirt roads at 40mph.

Seeing all the scratches and nicks in my tanks, tells me all that would be a waste of money.
But, both of the painted tanks pictured above look awefully darned good, for street bikes.

It might be a waste of money, but I think It'd be nice to give it a fresh coat every couple years. It won't last (at the rate I take dirt naps), but I do appreciate a sharp looking bike. I can't imagine it costs too much to be painted.

Well I think Geek is just jealous. Everyone says my bike is Halloween themed now that its all powdercoated. I just went with the hand I was dealt. When your buying used you cant be all that picky about the color.

Those tanks are not painted, they are wrapped.

If I didn't knew, I'd say those were made in soviet union. That's the level of finishing quality. Even the fuel pump gasket, which came with tanks, wasn't fuel resistant material!

I finished fuel pump hole, fuel level sensor hole and petcock holes with sandpaper and flushed plastic chips (there was lot) out of tank and made new fuel pump gasket of viton rubber. Now, when there is not any sign of leak, I like them. They are little wider than originals, but after few hours of riding thats not a problem.
I'd say those are in top three farkles, if range of original tanks is not enough.

do the ktm crash bars fit over these things?

About your link, yes many people here use the neduro tank. Nice and practical.
Requires a couple mods to reinforce the design.

Seconded. Also: Sucks my bars wont fit over the big tank. Do they make bars for these?... Do I need even them?

Is there an advantage over the big tank with the 'neduro' tank? Weight distribution maybe?

Neduro tank bracket on mine had to be modified to fit and still hits the swingarm at full compression. Im going to have my saddlebag mount modified so it holds the bag and also mod the top mount so thatI can get to the cap eaiser.

I bought mine for my 990 directly from Australia pre TT selling them. I used them for 50K and then when I changed the use of my bike I sold them to another inmate. My bike is now a two up tourer in Europe, not a Northern Canada bike.

What I learned, the Ethanol fuel "helps" them grow and black tanks really soak up the sun and always buy gas after lunch. Capacity grew to just over 12 gallons US. I managed 700 KMs + in Normal riding 600K's if I was riding Western highways.

Full Tanks on a loaded bike really make the soft front end more of a challenge. The Traxxion Dynamics front fixed that up. When you are travelling North the extra gas is a real treat.

I agree with the poster who discussed quality, they are farm equipment fit and finish, I managed to shop vac out a lot of plastic bits before I installed them. They are a pain to mount and remount compared to the stock tanks.

Touratech makes a set of crashbars for the safari tanks.
