I have never actually seen that map but I had heard from locals that there would be a road from Ust Kut to Lensk by about 2016, because of a big Gazprom field 150-180 km northwest of Vitim / Peledui. (roughly where Talakan is on the transneft map)

I had also heard about a road being built from Aldan to Olyokminsk.

This map ties it all up.

If I add it to my other Trans-Eurasian ADV rides, it looks like this:

Thanks all for this great report!

@Walter: Each different colour on your map represents a days ride, right?

Usually, yes - with some caveats. Some colours next to each other are sometimes so similar that you cant really differentiate them well unless I manually change them.

Also the Tokyo to London (1994) ride was not recorded on GPS, so I have manually drawn those tracks, simply using one colour per country for that journey.

I just received the first DVD. :thumb

I will certainly be buying the next Sibirsky Extreme DVD, and certainly would not mind the Moroccan Extreme. Hopefully you will get enough interest from North American to make it worthwhile.

I would buy one. But, PAL could be handled on the computer, I guess.

That was a impressive map Walter.
Do you know how many km you have ride total on your trips?

I would like to thank everyone for their kind words and interest in the trip.
Reading the last part of the RR was a great way to enjoy an adventure ride but without the wet socks :D

The beautiful pictures and great story telling makes me want to ride those tracks too.

    Thanks Geir, Steve and Erik

I will thank the rest of the crew in person if I didn't do that already :thumb

A special thanks to Terry for driving Beamster's bike back to Holland last October.
    I really enjoyed your company.

We took the bikes for a short test ride after they had been parked in Moscow for almost 3 months.

What's the approximate total distance and trip days all those lovely colours have consumed?

A big thank you and your companions for the best ride report I have read yet.
I have followed most of your previous reports for the last 4 years and finally ventured to Russia last summer but quickly realised to get full value I would need to learn some Russian or at least have a companion who was fluent.
Any advice on the easiest way to learn some Russian anyone

Walter did recommend some learning CDs (or was it DVDs) in one of his Sibirsky RR threads.

There's also a growing number of native teachers doing pretty decent lessons over Skype. That way it is personal, and you can get the amount and content tuned to what you need, also usually not that expensive. I know at least one girl who did that, with relevant linguistic degree and all, her students seemed to be happy. Not sure if she's still in business, but if you are interested, PM me, I can find out and let you know. Others like that should probably be easily googlable.

You could try the Michel Thomas audio course. Its MP3 based so can be loaded to your phone/Mp3 player. I think I got mine off ebay quite cheaply (pirate?:eek1)
