2013 F800GS Traction Control Issue

Just wondering if anyone else has/had an issue with the traction control still working despite being turned off?
Whether I had it turned on (light off) or off (light on), the traction control would still work.
If you have/had this problem, has it been diagnosed and fixed?
If so, what was the problem/solution?
Just FYI, I installed a battery tender cable direct to the battery and did so by disconnecting the positive terminal first and re-connected the positive before disconnecting the negative terminal.
Could this have caused my issue?
I'll be bringing the bike in for its first service in a week or so and having it checked out, but was hoping to avoid a delay at the dealer if there is a simple fix.

Haven't noticed anything on my '13 yet. Ill keep an eye out.

+1, but only about 4000 miles of highway, city and dirt.

My bike had less than 1000 miles on it when I noticed the problem on a gravel/dirt trail.
It's probably something minor.
I'm going to try disconnecting the negative terminal tomorrow for a couple minutes and see if it resets.

I was told by the dealer yesterday when I picked my F800GS up that it has two modes of Traction.

1. Standard mode - Stops any wheel spin
2. Enduro mode - allows for more spin on gravel but not to get out of control.

I have not tested it but just in case it is not an issue but a feature??

Anyone else heard the same? (I will check with my dealer tomorrow to confirm)

Well that kind of defeats the purpose of having an on/off switch for the traction control.
I don't buy it. And the manual says nothing about it other than turning it off and on.
It says nothing about two different modes.
One of the guys I was riding with is the sales manager where I bought my bike and he even saw the problem.
He rides a 1200GS.
He placed a call to his techs and they never mentioned anything about two modes.
I suspect when I disconnected the battery I caused the problem.
I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow for service and should have an answer then.

Ok. So brought the bike to the BMW dealer on Saturday for the 600 mile service and traction control issue.
He entered my VIN into the computer and it came back with a recall.
I'm not exactly sure, but I think it was computer code upgrade.
He said it would fix the traction control issue.
I have yet to test it out.
And no, there is no two different traction controls according to him.
It's either on or off.
Next chance I get, I'll check and see if the switch actually turns off the traction control now that the recall was complete.

Yes sorry, I have spoken to my dealer also about the TC and he said yes 'on or off' only. Pre sale versus post sale

I cant shut the abs or asc off on my 2013. I wanted it programmed out of my bike all together. Dealer says it cant be done. I dont have time to take it 2 hrs. to the dealer leave it cause they dont seem to have a clue. I took the front wheel sensor off and that shuts both off. The traction control is a joke If you're buying a new bike dont get it.

I didn't have a problem shutting the ABS off. It was the ASC that would not turn off. The light was on indicating it was off, but it was still on.
Hopefully the recall fixed it.
I haven't tested it yet.

Come on there Rando the suspense is killing me. Did the recall work? Just tach it up dump the clutch if the bike launches the ASC is off .

Ok. So I did a brief test.
It seems as if the switch is now turning off the traction control.
I'm off tomorrow and will do more testing to confirm.

I have had this same issue on my '13 F800GS. What I noticed is that even though the light comes on for the ASC, it would still function until I held the switch down again. Turns out to be a real PITA when you are trying to turn ABS and ASC off in a timely fashion. Then you go to do a nice sideways dirt drift and the damn thing cuts power!

Glad to see there is a recall. I will check with my dealer once they get around to fixing my deer-damaged bike and my 600 mile service.

My new 2013 has this issue as well. Anyone know specifically what to tell the dealer to get it corrected?

Call me old school, call me an asshole but I do not know why anyone would go with this option.

I bought my 2013 off the showroom floor and it came with the safety package which consists of ESA and ASC, so that's why I have it. I like the ESA but haven't tested the ASC so far.

Same here. Good luck finding a bike that doesn't have both. The safety package only adds ~$600 so it is well worth it to have the ESA. I don't mind the ASC, It's nice to have for street riding especially in the rain, but it is just as easy to switch off (If they fix the issue).

What happens when these systems (ABS, Etc) start to fail?

Dont get me wrong, 800 = GREAT BIKE.

Stuff that I dont need that raises the TCO is just marketing and Insurance company BS.

All that said I am going to do some research on ABS. All I know is that on my 1200 it makes the rear wheel go nuts when I am too hard on the rear brake scaring the shit out of me increasing my stop time as a result.

I am old school i guess i just bought what i needed, ABS is all i got, and it turns off well. Works for me, Great Bike
