How I spent my summer vacation, or 6000 miles on a WR250R

Skierd - excellent report. Thanks for the link from over at mine. I don't follow the RRs like I use to. I enjoyed reading it. I also enjoyed seeing the pictures you posted that I managed to NOT take pictures of. Looks like you dumped on the same sand hill I did. That thing is a booger-bear.

Dude, I'm flattered. There are so many awesome reports on this site that I can't feel my little story quite compares to the greats but I'll take the compliment.

I was worried about that sand hill all the damn way across Oklahoma. Your ride was very helpful in my planning since it was done kinda close to when I left, giving me insight on the trail's conditions for my trip.

Yes, outstanding. You might not have gone to places as "exotic" as some of the other RRs but don't slight yourself. You did an excellent job of documenting and capturing the feeling of your adventure as well as providing the details that appeal to this audience. (like gear, performance, comfort, etc.)
Your RR definately clinches my thoughts on the WRR. My buddy bought one last year after grilling me on which 250 would be the best DS for his money. I'm sure he made the right decision.

I finally just got done reading your RR. I dont get very much time to access a computer, but have made it a point to read bits and pieces when I can. To be honest with you, your report really is what sealed the deal for me getting a WRR. I have had other bikes, DRZ, XRL and the such, but I wanted something a bit lighter and a bit easier to ride offroad. I got my bike used for $3300 with only 2100 miles on it. It should serve me well with my own adventure rides. Thanks again!!!

Excellent RR! I should have gone to bed over an hour ago! You captured my sentiments exactly regarding Cripple Creek. When I was a kid we'd do family trips there, back then (early 90's) it was a sleepy little mining town, then a few years later the casino's came in and the town lost its charm. I'm most impressed that you did this trip after only having ridden for a year or so. I've ridden my whole life, since I was 4, which would put me at 30 years of riding now, and I have NEVER done a trip like this. Needless to say you've inspired me.

Just stumbled on this RR and loved it! Great mix of pics and info. I've been riding for 38 years and have owned everything from mopeds to Aspencades....The R2 is my favorite do-everything bike hands down.

Great report. Love reading about the 250 and how it performed. I have a Honda CRF250L and this kind of report inspires me to ..get out there.

Sadly the WR250R from this ride report was stolen on New Years Eve 2010 with just under 18,000 miles on the clock. It's replacement was purchased in January 2010 and now has 43,000+ miles on it and as you'll see if you read the above rides has been to the edges of North America.
