Rollin, rollin. Can't wait to get back on the road...

How to make a KLR small:
    <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/antontrax/3960699857/" title="Way out West-0341 by Motojournalism.com, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2642/3960699857_d325cef4df_b.jpg" width="1024" height="685" alt="Way out West-0341"></a>

    Put it in a box:
    <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/antontrax/4572996472/" title="cover photo-1320128 by Motojournalism.com, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4003/4572996472_b3f59f0e4d_z.jpg" width="443" height="640" alt="cover photo-1320128"></a>

Or park it next to something bigger:
    <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/antontrax/4073823745/" title="Way out West-1250403 by Motojournalism.com, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2804/4073823745_e19d69377f_b.jpg" width="1024" height="576" alt="Way out West-1250403"></a>

I am really digging that paint job Tumbleweedracer! Would look really nice in the desert.

Here is my ride. Nothing special, but I am a biologist and I use her to collect scorpions throughout the southwest! Anyone out there in Las Vegas that wants to join me?? :dllama

That is the best use for a KLR yet! And you get out there where nobody can get to- very nice :clap
I'll be out west for Pikes Peak at the end of June and then a month of tooling around the west- I might make a run up to Prudhoe Bay...

I'll PM you when I get near LV to see if you're around & up for showing me around... don't worry I have no interest in gambling or The Strip or whatever you call the main drag :D I'll be on my 950 for this ride

Does that scorpion "glow" like that in daylight? I've seen them in Baja & South Carolina (didn't even know we had them there!)

Sounds good Geometrician! Hit me up when you are in town and we can go blacklight for scorpions in the hills around here.

Btw, are you from WV?! I'm a Marshall alumn... got a bachelors and masters degree there and met my wife, a born and raised West Virginian, in the process. So let's see, you ride motorcycles, brew beer, AND hail from WV... yup, you're pretty much welcome at my house anytime! :freaky

    Cheers,

    Matt

Oh, and scorps are nocturnal, so you have to blacklight for them at night. Can't see their fluorescence during the day that well anyway.

Cool. I did a stint in southern Nevada studying desert tortoises and we also ran a bunch of pitfall traps for insects, herps, and rodents. We caught tons of those huge scorps.

I too got to utilize my KLR later as a fish biologist in Arizona. See my Eagle Creek and Lake Mohave ride reports (in my sig line). :thumb

Great ride reports DirtyDog! Really gets me amped about some scorpions I need to collect from the mountains of AZ this summer. Looks like it's going to be a blast.

And yeah, the scorp pictured, the Arizona Giant Hairy Scorpion, is pretty common in the Sonoran and Mojave deserts. I've pretty much dedicated the last 4 years of my life to studying that scorpion and some related species... which will be the guts of my PhD dissertation next spring. Let me know if you are ever back west and want to go collecting!

    Cheers,

    Matt

If I'm out west, I'm riding! :ricky (Actually the pitfalls were pretty fun. So was the Gila Monster radio telemetry and chasing tortoises around.)

Passing through NV in June on the Western TAT, but I won't be near Las Vegas.

What's your trick, sleep with your tent flaps open then shake them out of your sleeping bag in the morning?
