Jealous, no miles over here on the bike, 3 ft of snow in the yard. I need to spend some money and get a new reliable sled! But the there is that bike I want. mmmm decisions..

I'm thinking maybe a Gold Hill / Switzerland Trail loop on the 950 in the a.m. when it is colder (gerbings) and then some LHC fun on the 500 in the p.m.

I' ve been watching a lot of knarly single track helmet mounted videos lately. Is it true that the camera makes the trail look tougher than it actually is? Looks like the tree or rock or root wipeout is emminent at every obstacle, but ya'all just keep charging onward and upward. I know the up and down steepness is not realistic. Knowledge is King, but Experience Rules.

It makes it look easier. You don't see the sweat in your eye's, feel the sore and cramping leg's arms and back , and the heavy breathing, and the bike bouncing beneath you.

Start out easy, maybe a track and check out Gopro Mx track's- those guys make it look too easy.

Just got back 6+ hours... rode the last hour or more in the dark (dual Squadron's rock!).

Switzerland was about what you'd expect... the north facing stuff south of Sunset has snow.. Pennsylvania and Bear Gulches are un-rideable (some smart guy in a jeep has rutted the hell out of Penn. while trying).
All the single track we played in up-high was snow filled.





Who'd have thought you could get to tree line on a dirtbike in relative comfort in January.





Stubby doesn't get to play in the snow much it appears...

How was the road up to Gold Hill and beyond? IE. Sunshine canyon up to P2P ?

We went up Lickskillet to Gold hill - no where you had to touch snow (i.e. there was dirt tracks between it in the shade).
From Gold Hill to Peak to Peak was dirt... snow free except a few shaded spots (but you could avoid it).

Coming back down after dark (and below freezing).. things were a little more slick as the wet spots were turning to ice.

Thanks for the reply. I was more wondering if by watching a video of a ride on a singletrack, can one realistically access it's difficulty level? I would like to ride some ST, but the videos all look "over my head." Whatever happened to the ole--cow trailin-- tracks I rode in the 60's?
