GPS POINTS MILITARY ROADS (SUSA, ITALY into FRANCE)

A friend and I will be traveling from Susa Italy on the old military roads between Italy and France. Was wondering if anyone had some GPS tracks they could send our way or even any info on what is a must to see and what can be skipped. We have heard Susa Italy is a great little town with all kinds of info and they go out of there way to help you plan the passes. We will be traveling on 1200 GSA's and have 10 - 15 days of travel time. We are both very seasoned off-road riders. Any information would be awesome. We have found lots on the net but always better from people that have done it. Thanks

we are also going end of july and have spoken with the bardonecchia commune to clarify exactly which roads are opena nd which are not because i have found a lot of mixed info.

remember that nearly every military road that goes from italy to france are closed

you also may have heard the story of the guys that were caught on a closed road, the police took their bikes away with a helicopter and the guys had to walk back to the village for several hours and pay a huge fine..... :huh:eek1:eek1

make 100% sure the roads you are going on are allowed as the signs are not always there to say the roads are closed - you just have to know!!

best to phone the commune or tourist info and they will give you the correct info - it will be safer!!

i already drove some of these roads. of some i stored the gps-coordinates. if you need it, let me know it.

in 2011 we go on any military ways (ligurien, etc.), no problem

Hi, I have various offroad gps track around Bardonecchia, near Susa
You can reach with motorbikes roads at about 3.000 mt of altitude

You know that in April all
the dirt roads will be closed, you can only travel the roads around end of july- mid August.

The susa and bardo communes are very helpful as are the police who advise routes and have in the padt given us special permission to ride "closed" routes.

I made Journeys in this Area every Year.
Last Year we have some problems with closed Roads. The wintersnow was not gone in June.
All the highmountain roads are not passabel.
Another obstacle is the tour de france.

You wont belive, how many roads are closed when the Tour de France have to pass.

Teil 4

Vor Briancon muss nun das Wetter entscheiden ob über den Col d Agnel Maira Vrata Stura Kammstraßen oder eher Rückmarsch Richtung Grenobel
Alternativ wären noch die Runde Col Agnel- Col di Sampeyre (Maira Stura Asphalt mit schönen Überhängen) Borgo- Col de la Lombarde- Isola Col dela Bonette Col de Vars denkbar.

Achtung!! Die Maira Runde führt vermutlich zum Verzicht auf Teil 6 bei der Rückreise, da nur 8 Tage zur Verfügung stehen.
