I'd love to join you guys anytime you've got something going on between Yosemite to Tahoe and east towards Nevada. My riding partner Lionsroaar, as earlier stated would also most likely join you. Looks like a good group and some fun riding.:clap

I was planning on doing a dual sport ride on August 21-22 up by Lake Almanor , but it was cancelled. It is east of Red Bluff on the California map along Hwy 36. I have a room booked in Chester for Aug. 21 already, and was thinking about going anyway, just to check the area out? It is probably a 4-6 hour ride from Merced though. If you really wanted to get a good day of riding you would need to leave early or, stay a couple of nights? From what the promoter told me you would need to book a room like right now, if you wanted to stay in a hotel.

Sounds interesting! I have not spent much if any time up north, only along the coast. Let me check my schedule at work see what might be happening here in the hangar. I know I have to go to Miami around the 1st for an engine swap but I should be finished by then. The wife is working Friday nights, I think through the entire month of Aug...so a definite maybe!

Might be picking up a DR350 this Saturday. If so, then I'd definately be up to riding the back route into Yosemite the following weeked --- if it isn't 105 degrees outside!

Are you trailer'n your bike up there or riding up? Checked the area out on the map, looks like lots of riding in and around chester...peaks at about 6000 and the airport in chester is at 4500, i bet it is nice there...

I would love to join you guys for a trip into Yosemite. I have friends that have done it, so I know there is a route out of Coulterville. Can't do it next weekend (Laguna Seca MotoGP) but one of the weekends after might work out. I will keep checking to see if anything materializes.

If you want to go, I'll ride my 650 Dakar up. If no one is interested in going, I will probably trailer my DRZ there? The DRZ is easier for me to pick up by myself if it should happen. :rofl

Here is a link of the area, you can find places to stay on there.

I have a reservation at the Antlers motel for Saturday August 21. From what I have been told, you will want to make a reservation as soon as you can? I guess it is a popular place to visit during the summer months?

Alright, I'll see if I can do something that following weekend. I know some people who may want to go as well.

I've actually did the route in my Subaru a few weeks ago. If you check back a couple of pages in this thread I have some details including a link to a GPS track and pictures of the trip.

Of course, this all depends on Saturday's trip to LA to check out the new bike. If it turns out OK (and I think it will) then I'll be good to go.

    Jason,
It is looking better and better for that weekend, for me anyway. My better half will be working Thur and Friday night so I can get away for the weekend.I can get my hand on a enclosed trailer, easier for me to load might trailor the bike up. I checked rooms, there are some available but I did not check out the antler. I was thinking of skipping out of work Friday in time to beat Sacramento traffic. anyone else interested in expanding your horizons that weekend? lasherman. memnok fire that GPS up and find some rides!!!

Picked up the DR350 Saturday. Boy is it a nice bike... I'm gonna love it.

I need to get some rear turn signals on it since I already kicked-off the weak ones that were on there getting off the bike at the gas station. Then I have to do the DMV thing and get some plates for it.

Then, it's time to ride! I'll post up some pics of it tomorrow.

Ok so the week ended with both wheels off the bike and new shoes. It seems that I was just wearing out the TKC's running pavement this summer. So i opted for a set of Shinko 705's. They were cheaper then the continentals and the metzler's and look to handle pavement better.

Any way during the change out I noticed that the rear bearings on the GS where not the smoothest they could be. So I opted to get a set on Friday and figured I would change them out Friday night. Well I did not have the correct bearing puller so a trip to Modesto happened and Cycle Specialist's were kind enough to take care of me Saturday afternoon. thanks guys...

Well anyway so today I finally took it out for a spin, headed out to Hornitos and up Bear Valley Road. I have seen the turn off, just over the summit for Hunter Vally Road and so I figured I would see where it took me...

Any of you guys ever been down this road before. it is in great shape but I only made it about half way, when I noticed the time and realized that I needed to be home like five minutes ago....

Looking on the map it looks to dead end at Lake McClure but was wondering if it is worth dropping down to the lake. Where I stopped was almost at 3,000 feet and the temps had dropped from 104 to about 92 with a nice view of the valley and Snelling and Merced Co.

    Here is the turn off

Kind of the top, at least where I saw the time and had to turn around!

Any thoughts on the next ride, Aug. I am pretty sure I am going to head north the third week/weekend. I need a good excuse to take some time off work,

Yeah, that is a nice road to take if you don't have a lot of time to go higher up. It does take you all the way to the lake. It used to be rough as hell, but I noticed they graded it last time I was out there.

I have to let my boss know what weekends I want off in August? I am already taking the 21-22 off so I can go to Lake Almanor. I think I am going to take the 7-8 off also?

Yeah that is a great road....you can get to the lake but there is a gate at the end. last time I rolled down when the water was low it attracted the lake cops they were trying to get a hold of me.....just hauled ass
