That's what I used to like about Tony Kirby's reviews.... He'd tell it as it is.

So, what do you think is the best $1k investment in a DRZ, a set of ACT wide ratio trans gears, or a Cylinder Works 434cc kit?

Mate,

I reckon the ACT WR gears are a great option, but I am hoping with the extra displacement I can run taller gearing to give it some legs on the transport stages :evil

My 4mm over Piston Kit was landed here in Oz for about $426.00. Hot Crank 4mm stroker was about $300 from memory . . . I went with Fluidyne oversize Radiators for the extra $300 So would give me a bit better bang for Buck from my perspective.

If my gearbox is iffy, then I would buy a ACT as well, but hoping I dont have to.

Pezz :)

I'm curious about those rads, are they larger in surface area, or thicker with more heat transfer area? Close to stock fitment/clearance with shrouds etc? Will guards for a stock rad fit them? Or Does Fluidyne sell guards for them? The right rad on my DRZ is bent pretty bad, and I want to replace it, I was thinking of oversize rads, but I also want to fit a guard, and not sure on fitment.

I'm planning on what I am going to do with my tax return. So many things I want to do with my DRZ, I'm trying to decide what to do first. I'd like a FCR, 434cc, Rekluse, ACT WR gearset, and a RT Gold Valves (Rally fairing too eventually, since I'm dreaming). I already have a Q4 w/powerbomb header, re-jet, re-sprung for my weight, and a Tubliss set-up.

It's a bit of a kick in the balls, because if I look at the cost to do everything I want to do, I could go out and buy a TE610 for probably less total money and have a better bike. Although I would have to repeat a lot of the mods on a TE (tubliss, rekluse, suspension re-spring, exhaust).

But I like the DRZ, especially the reliability. So it's also a question of save all the money I would put in parts and eventually upgrade. Or upgrade the DRZ and keep it a lot longer.

As a side note, it seems like DRZ's are generally underutilized here in the states. In Europe, and especially in Australia, it seems like people use the DRZ for a lot broader range of riding, from commuters to full-on rally race bikes. I apologize for steering this thread in a slightly more on-topic direction, but like I said, you guys tend to do more, and therefore know more.

Well . . . . .

The RG Scrapper has arrived at the Skunkworks.

Thanks Andrew for the bike :freaky

I have it sitting in the shed next to the donor bike. It is a tiny bike. I have taken a few rough measurements and looks like the complete DR600 Front end will need to be bolted on. Had a look at the DR front rim and it has numerous cracks and will need replacing too. Then a closer check of the rear wheel and it has two big flat spots opposite each other :lol3.

Looking at the rear floater suspension rocker pivot and the differ by about 20mm. I may just use the RG swing arm and stick the DR rocker in and see how that works. Then get a heavier spring for the RG shock.

I put the Nomad tank on the rear seat and it fits right in there :thumb

I have to pick up a box of other bits from Andrew this week and then I will see what I have.

Err yeah Davo

That photo is not a true representation of the bike. There is much not servicable. Forks are rusty and pitted, a lot of the fittings, bolts and brackets are missing, it also has clutch issues, no airbox, no sidcovers. Basically a perfect place to start building a Scrapper

Also, I am not cutting anything! That isnt my 'Style'
The XR460/4 could easily be returned to a stock CB400/4, all be it a 460cc, and I have a number of boxes of the original bits for that bike in the shed.

The Full Floater rear end is a bolt out and swap in, nearly. The tripples from the DR600 will inserted in the front end along with the forks etc.

The Fairing panels are sitting there held on with tie wire.

Next post will cover the tearing down of the DR600

Let the DR teardown begin

I intend to use the front end and as much of the rear susppension as possible

Forks out now to the back end

The rear axle was a bent tent post.

Scrapheap Bash

Pezz was lurking in the shed late one night
When his eyes beheld an eerie sight
For thiss monster from it’s slab… began to rise
And suddenly… to my surprise

it did the mash
it did the scrapheap mash
The Scrapheap mash
It’s made from junkyard trash
it did the mash
It’s caught on in a flash
it did the mash
it did the scrapheap mash

From the laboratory at the Skunkworks east
To the
Cobar crypt’s… where the desertDog’s feast
The fools all came from their humble abodes
To get a jolt, from some gravel roads…

They did the bash
They did the scrapheap bash
The scrapheap bash
It was a challenging smash
They did the bash
It’s caught on like a rash…
They did the bash
They did the scrapheap bash

The posties were having fun
The party had just begun
The guests included Old-Dog
UncleGra and his son

The scene was shockin', all were scroungin’ around…
tREV and his chains, makin’ stretchin’ sounds
The airhead-bangers were about to arrive
With their vintage group, "The Shit-Kicker Five"

They rode the bash
They rode the scrapheap bash
The scrapheap bash
It was a boneyard smash
They rode the bash
In aid of charity cash
They rode the bash
They rode the scrapheap bash…

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

Out from the Skunkworks, Pezz's voice did ring
Seems he was troubled by just one thing
He opened the donk… and shook his fist
he said, "look what fuggin’ happens when ya’ build’em while-yer pissed?"

It's now just trash
It's now just scrapheap trash
just scrapheap trash
And it's a midnight dash
to make the bash…
It caught on in a flash
It's now THE bash
It's now the scrapheap bash!

Now everything's cool, Pezz's bike is in bit's
And the 'Zuki clan have all got the shits :rofl
For you, ADV’ers… this bash is “must do”
When you get to Cob-ar, tell them OldDog sent you

Then you can bash
Then you can scrapheap bash
The scrapheap bash
And ride your graveyard trash
Then you can bash
You'll catch dust in your snatch
Then you can bash
Yes, you can scrapheap bash…

Rrrrrmmmm, yes good…
Easy OldDog…. You impetuous boyyy…

Love it Troy :clap:freaky:clap:freaky

So, today I got the RG up on the bike lift.

A few things to cogitate here . . . . . :norton

Looking at the front end, the RG triple trees have a decent amount of offset, so I will need to do some basic trigonometry after some careful measurements to work out of the DR600 forks will suit. :deal

Taylor,

I want to ride the MZ on Pezz's scrap heap ride, I only have a project or 2 to go, then I can get to it.

I'll swap you the K bike for the PD, and you can throw in the MZ for a sweetner.
