How rude of me. I guess I should give some sort of update. Progress has been rather slow. I did get the gasket kit in, along with some fuel hose. Well, it turns out that both are the wrong size, even though I ordered according to the manual. I really have absolutely ZERO experience with carbs. To make it worse, when I got the bike, the carb wasn't attached. Usually when I learn to work on things, I'll take something off and put it on the same way I took it off. I can't in this case. So, I dug up a set of measuring tools a mechanic buddy of mine gave me a long time ago. I think I'm taking this measurement right. If so, that means it's a 34 mm carb, right?
Yeah, that's the problem. The cost of getting it to you, even half-way, would probably be more than the bike is worth. I may get around to fixing it...
I picked up a bike very similar to yours. Maybe we can put our heads together and get both of them running! Also, can't see your older pics, so not sure if you have the same carb as me. I am still figuring out which one I have. :huh Here is where I have a few questions... http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=810280
In all seriousness, do you still have to do some carb work? You can definitely do that inside. Or did you get the carb rebuilt and the bike still won't run?
Truth is, I'm just being lazy about it. Of course I still have carb work to do. I'm going to Colorado next week. Maybe after that.... maybe....
Yeah, I didn't feel like renewing my account with whatever hosting company it's with. I may once I start taking more pics. The carb is definitely not stock. I ordered a stock set of gaskets, and none of them fit. Very frustrating. Probably almost as frustrating as a story never being completed.
Any chance you can look up what the float height setting is supposed to be? I'm assuming that its like the other DR carbs and you take the float bowl off, flip it upside down and then measure the bottom of the float to the lip of the carb housing as soon as the float switch hits the needle? Thanks!
Thought I would update this thread. I'm Kooter's little brother and I have the bike now. After messing with that Carb quite a bit I got it running tonight. The Carb still ain't quite right and I believe I need a new float. But I got to hear it run for about 30 seconds. I can't wait to ride this thing!
