I was raised in Pekin, Illinois, and that seems like such a long time ago. Being an Illinois boy, I always thought of our geography as prairie, the beginning of the Great Plains. My younger brother lives in Lincoln, IL, so I get back "home," the Land of Lincoln, from time to time.

    Nice looking KLR.

She's doing ok, but I'm still not sure if I'm cut out to be a cat person. I've learned the old saying "Dogs have masters, cats have staff" is true. :baldy

But I know what I can get you for Christmas... :augie

Just before you get to the Snowy Range Mountains of Wyoming you find the Overland Trail.

Once on top, this is the view, looking east toward the trail marker, above.

I'm rolling along and heard this loud whistle. Just in time I skipped over and parked the bike by the rails and got into position to snap off this quick shot. Small engine, large engine.
This is a great thread because I so love this State, Nebraska, and think folks just don't appreciate the Plains period. Sometimes it's nice to be wrong, which seems to be the case here.
Consider my check in the mail. :rofl

Off the beaten path for a touring bike but lord knows I didn't it was going to be that way. So onward I plunged, and came across the nicest lady in this grocery store that was just a wee bit off the beaten path! 30 minutes of conversation and off I was again to find the rest of Nebraska. :rofl
Two things I'm coming to find is that if you compare maps from 75 years ago, small towns are dying and farms have the same last name.
