I just bought my first Airhead, a 1975 R90/6. I'm lucky that it came with a toolkit. I have one empty pocket in the tool roll. Is anything missing? The 12x10 box wrench is missing, as well as the feeler gauge set. The tommy bar is incorrect and the screwdriver is also incorrect. The original was an all steel 1 piece flat-handled screwdriver. Also there should be a small yellow handled screwdriver that is stored inside one of the socket wrenches. What you've got there is a factory replacement tool kit for the 70-84 bikes, still sold by BMW. So you know the tools are nicely laid out on the fiche from BMW with part numbers. The 12x10 box wrench is still available, as well as the feeler gauge set. Both are reasonably priced. the box wrench is one of my favorites in my toolbox. The correct tommy bar is NLA as well as the correct screwdriver. (although BMW does supply it in their pre 70 toolkit, they don't supply a part number for it.) Also, my brothers very original 1975 R75/6 has the original tool kit and it has the fork adjuster in it, the 19x22 open end wrench. His tool pouch is tan with red piping. He has owned the bike since 1977 and bought it from a doctor who only put 1,800 miles in 2 years. One day I saw him using the original screwdriver as a paint can opener and nearly strangled him. Wireman: Are you sure about the plastic screwdriver thing? I've had two different /6 bikes and my 1976 R-75 cam with a green see-thru plastic handled S-driver, while my 1976 R-90/6 came with a ruby red see-thru s-driver. Please don't tell me that I have to go out looking for a steel screwdriver or be banished from the club!! :eek1
What about the swingarm/36mm wrench and the steering head hook/fork cap spanner wrench? Didn't those come stock in the tool kit as well? Frankly, if a bike doesn't come with a tool kit, those are the two I'd want most. And I do like that 10/12 box combo. You won't be able to find that one anywhere else. I try not to use my tool kit for anything but emergency roadside repairs. And check the kit often - the tools can get damp and rust.
Most assuredly. also, Terry reminded me in the previous post about the tool for the swingarm nut. I did mention the fork tool though. I have a /6 owners manual here from 76 that has a good picture on page 18 of the correct tools. Robert

I need to find one of those swing arm tools for my /5. That looks exactly right for a little job I need to finish.
