well captain and deejay inspired me to do the hose swap and bleed my brakes

good news is the new hose and mc bolted right up and looks good

the soon to be seen news is wether I can get ALL the bubbles out

its just taking me longer than usual but Im getting firm at the lever(please no jokes jajaja)

so the lever is sitting there while I bleed the lower banjo every 5 minutes or so and tap tap tap at the mc

yes I know reverse bleed blah blah blah, thing is I dont know where I put all that crap when I moved

so its old school style bleed for me

    so far so good

now just need to rejet the needle on the carb I think and maybe up the main jet and I should be ok for the meantime

Im getting close to 50mpg which is too lean now that I think about it for the way I ride jajaja

    peace:rofl

I'm digging the low end grunt the XR makes compared to the highrevving brep from the crf.

    Christian,

When ya park the bike for the day get a strap, zip tie, bungie cord or whatever and put it on the front brake lever in the applied position and turn the bars so the master cylinder is at the high position. The real tiny bubbles will find their way to the top and out of the system.

What helped for me was putting the fluidcap back on, and tilting the bike over from right to left allmost all the way. helps the stuck bubbles on their way up.

also tap the banjobolts and the caliper with a small ringspanner (10/12mm)

When I did a partial top-end rebuild last year I made the royal mistake of using a chinese gasket set to put er back together again.
Replaced the stator and clutch gaskets in the meantime cause they´re easy to get to, but I still have an oil leaking problem. Time has finally come to replace the base and head gaskets.

    Lesson learned ! :deal

Meantime I'll be replacing my crank puls generator aswell, maybe that'll finally fix the problem of erratic idling and stalling

stock dpr8 or dpr9 for long high speed

I learned to gap them at 1mm instead of .8-9 for better burn

deejay what was your jetting? or is all that black soot on the piston from a leak? that looks really black and sooty

I've been mucking about with my jetting for a long while now because of a persistent problem with stalling and erratic idling.
Jetting is probably far from ideal, causing the soot, with this jetting it's been the best managable.

I've replaced just about all the electrical components, tried all kinds of jetting, checked for air leaks around the intake boots, new air cut-off valve, the works.

Now I'm hoping that replacing the crank pulse generator finally proves to be the culprit, this is the only electrical component I haven't replaced yet.

    Fingers crossed...

what IS you jetting and are you using a jet kit or stock jets and needle?

thats what my prox piston looked like with an xl600 crank that sat too low that along with stock 165main for my year bike

very similar...the exhaist ports and oem muffler, and header were packed with soot

    just sayin

p.s. erratic idling can be from being too rich...Ive been there big time...I finally learned my lesson

I have 2 spare stators, an extra coil, extra plug cap, extra pg, extra cdi,

    its jetting in the end.

    good luck

I have the dual carbs, so I doubt my jetting will be meaningful to you.
Stock is 45 pilot and 2x 225 mains off the top of my head.

I´m not sure what jetting I put in last, it´s a while ago, I think it was somewhere around 55 pilot and 2x 245 mains.

    I do have:
    - opened up aibox
    - twin air filter
    - mildly ported head
    - oversized headers
    - FMF Q4 muffler with chopped spark arrestor

I've read that even fully stock, upping to a 48 is a good idea, since they were a little lean from factory. So I'd think 55 wouldn't be too much. I've tried a 48 aswell btw.

I have about all available sizes of pilot jets by now... problem remains
