Apparently you can get it out from taking the clutch side cover off and removing the clutch itself. Still a PITA but better than removing the engine to split the case. Part is only $60. I'll try a dremel tonight. Not much room to work in with peg, case and frame in the way.

    Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

can't you just grind/cut through a couple of sections around the shift lever, then punch a section out. Probably not explaining it right, but make a few incisions with your dremel in a couple of spots like in the photo, weaken the metal, then carefully punch it out. Maybe I have no clue, but this is what I would attempt:

matter of fact the clamp on one I used in the picture was a replacement part for KTM.

You found a clamp type for KTM? Wondering how it stays on the beveled spline. Another option I've seen is getting a steel shift lever (apparently arc makes one) and welding it to the steel shaft.

Anyone find a local store that carries rescue bits?

Thanks I was hoping to run to Lowes or something and try it.

After unsuccessful dremeling I broke down and removed the clutch side case and clutch. Ended up breaking the aluminum clutch hub trying to get the nut off it though. Another $60 or so part. This is giving me flashbacks to the "shock incident" where I had to take the shock to C-Cycle...just a series of things going wrong all at once. Looks like I might miss Indian Ridge this weekend.
