Hey Crafty, don't think that this is what you meant when you said "Hobbled". I went to look for some tracks I had up loaded in May and the web page never loads, it just loops. Pop-up says that the site requires IE8 and can't use compatibility mode. I use IE 11 and not in Compatibility mode. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news... Thanks!
I suggest trying a different browser (chrome). There isn't much that can be done now without a ton of labor and working toward browser compatibility currently makes little sense when most of the important functions are broken. I think the smart move is to wait until there is time to invest in DSM v2 and get it working. I assure you, no one is more upset than I am about the site sucking now.
Appreciate the response, Crafty. That is exactly what I did. Fortunately I have access to another laptop running Chrome. It's just not the one I regularly use. I get that it's frustrating for all involved, that's why I hesitated to post a message but I figured that you'd want to know. I've been on board since the early days (not the first, by any stretch, but a long time fan of the website) and a subscriber, so I hope you'll take this as intended. If you can stand some advice from the users side of the page... if the site stays down too long and visitors can't get access beyond a page that sort of sounds like a rant against Google (Google "Killed" the site), you're going to lose a lot of traffic, permanently, as well as tank the app sales and piss off those who bought the app already (I know, I'm probably telling you things you already know). Maybe if you could change your message to say that Chrome has, at least some limited functionality and that you're working on DSM v2.0 but it's gonna take some time perhaps you can avoid some of the carnage. I'm not trying to piss in your Wheaties because I am a huge fan and user of both the site and the app. Just offering some feedback from the user side of the problem. Good luck, and keep us posted.
I removed the app from the Google store when Google killed the website, so sales are at zero. As for subscribers, I strongly encourage people to unsubscribe until there is something worth subscribing to. If I could figure out a way to unsubscribe everyone, I would. Unfortunately I cannot and I get spammed until I take the $10 so the whole process is officially a pain in my butt. I am NOT currently working on the website. Too many irons in the fire and the website is waiting in the wings. The good news is that I will have a nanny coming the new year to help with the kids and I expect to have a little more time to dedicate to this project.
I'd describe the DSM Android app as "in limbo" until the website is rewritten. Without the website working effectively I don't see the point in updating the app.
So what your saying is if I payed for this app pack in the early fall I'm f@#ed? Or will I be able to update to new if or when it comes out?
Obviously, I can't speak for Crafty but I've been in this from early on and he's been nothing but a straight up guy. I wouldn't panic. Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
The app has not been impacted by Google's change. I just don't want to take on any new users if the product isn't up to the quality standards I set initially (which included an awesome website which is no longer awesome). When the website gets updated I will put the app back in the app store.
Crafty, Thanks for all the great mapping, you have a product that is definitely user and device friendly. Great work, I hope you can still make a go of it. Let us know if you can bring her from the ashes... Blessings to you and your family, Cheers!
Un subscribe from what ? This thread or the website? I'll keep lurking around cause I belive you'll eventually get it running again. The app still works so I can still record tracks and that's a good thing for me. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
I have been writing an article for some of the 4x4 navigators and was planning to reference this app. If possible it would be great, I know a slew of people using it as their primary navigation tool, just FYI
Here it is, if it helps. They published the version with typos but still helpful nevertheless... http://expeditionportal.com/resources/2696-overland-navigation-new-opportunities-with-tablets.html
