Will somebody please post some pics of there SXC with an IMS tank. I already have the 18L tank with LC4 seat. I only put it on for big trips and leave the stock SXC tank on the rest of the time. It will go like 300 miles on that tank, but for aggresive offroad riding the extra width has started to annoy me. I take my SXC on a lot of trails that are suited more to a EXC then a 300lb SXC so I like to keep it as slim as possible.
Thanks for the link. Didn't know Munn racing has those diagrams on-line... I remember his SXC, went to someone in Cali IIRC. I searched for steelhead's posts & found this thread. Seems like with the Biggun tank, the range wouldn't be much more than the 18L...still cheaper though, specially if I could retain the stock seat...
The tank fits on the bike...sorta... and it holds 3.7-ish gallons but it's fair to say you get what you pay for when you shell out the $600+ for the OEM stuff. Thanks for posting the pics NED, but I see what you mean about the fit. DO the orange side flares secure to the IMS tank using all of the factory bolt holes? Do you have problems with crap getting in that big gap between seat and tank? Has any one mounted the KTM hard parts 13L tank to a SXC? Wow a couple more questions and I will sound like a curious five year old! LOL
You could always get ahold of a pair of rear tanks (Rallye) - sure would even out the weight distribution.
Or I could just fill my camel back up with gas. Extra 120 oz. of gas and I could pour it in with the handy hose.
Wow, you must get about 150miles from the standard tank, is that right? :eek1 I get about 50-60m before I hit reserve:huh & it shitsme no end so I'm keen to get the 18l tank setup sent from the USA. why do I get such crappy mpg
So what how far do you get on the stock tank in Km's ? What size tank 9Lt or 12Lt ? What carb FCR or BST. On my 640 ADV jetted BST, opened airbox, sports muffler - If I'm touring I get around 18-20 km per Lt. Racing, etc will see 8-12 km/lt
I have the 06 SXC & all is standard (FCR) & 9L tank I get @ 90+k before I hit reserve, there's no way I can go on a ride requiring more than @110k before fuel is needed which really shits me
Thats normal for most enduro style bikes, when ridden in the manner they were designed to be, e.g. single track, fire trails and getting up it. I dunno if anyone has tried the hot water & compressed air trick on one to gett an extra couple of liters. KTM was selling the last of the LC4e with an ADV kit, bash plate and 18Lt tank, so there maybe a few 12Lt tanks sitting around unused, you just gotta find one on the cheap, eh.
Well I need to explain. On the stock tank, which I believe is a 9L tank I can get about 120miles under best conditions(i.e. constant 65 MPH on pavement) Now you are saying to your self that would only be 240 miles per tank with the 18L, but some how it's not. For one thing the 18L tank holds slightly more gas then it should. From dead empty I can get 5 gallons, which is 3/10 more then advertised. I should also say that I hit the reserve at around 270 to 280 depending on riding. Now when I am riding offroad at elevation(lets say over 6,000 ft.) I will hit the reserve between 190 and 230 ish. This is of course with the big tank. This is on a 2004 SXC with the Kehein carb.
Yes, the comfort seat is WAY better. However, to really get a good fit, pull off the vinyl seat cover and sand down the comfort seat to more properly fit your posterior. Don't know the grit, but it was REALLY rough. It turned out to be very easy to shape the seat. I flattened it into more of a bench shape and just did nydockinpilot's 2 week idaho adventure (2000mi +) in great comfort (excepting the vibrations of course). I also put on the 19L KTM tank and it works very well but is more costly and doesn't come with any decals. I'm told that Clarks also makes a bolton tank for the 625 but haven't seen it personally. PS I fully dual-sported my 625SXC and LOVE it! 300 lbs, 57hp, great suspension. What's not to love? (ok, the vibes on the highway suck - but other than that????) cheers
One more thing... I also use the Alaskan Leather(?) sheep skin pad which also has made a huge difference. I gues it's the air circulation. anyway, have done multi-day trips now in reasonable comfort. Other folks (like aerostich) also sell sheepskin pads which may work fine. I do notice a significant advantage whichever you chose.
No prob, just returning a favor I asked of others. Attached via bolt holes on shroud bottom only, zip ties for the rest a la Steelhead's setup. Not exactly classy but I have other financial priorities (ie: several mouths to feed and more) so cost is the bottom line. Sure, you get some dirt/crud in there but it's not too big a deal unless you like to continually search out the slop and wallow in it. The 13L is a bolt on item and needs the other seat. Have a dig over at the KTMTalk LC4 funhouse, it's all there. Don't sweat the five year old thing. You don't hold a match to my kids.
Here are some pics of the tank on my SXC. It's not black like Ned's but I think it's the same IMS tank. Adding it here since this thread is now in the index and maybe they'll be useful. I'm not sure white/orange is a good combo so I didn't even think of trying to mount the stock shrouds. Plus this way, it tolerates being dropped reallty well I don't like how it handles when running out of gas (needing to go onto reserve), not sure if this is an IMSism (or with the routing of the right side fuel line) or perhaps a FCR41ism. The one time I had to go on reserve I was in the fast lane of the freeway going uphill and it died on me with zero warning. Not that pleasant. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 4/5/6 show the metal bar the first owner fabricated. It mounts to the horn bolt and runs side to side, lower tank bolts connect to it since the fit isn't sufficient to allow it to connect to the radiator holes. Some people have managed to get a fit which doesn't require this but a lot of other havn't. Tony
the guy I bought my 05 SXC from had fitted them. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=212063&page=5
First, with respect to hijacking the thread, please feel free. It's for info exchange. On the seat - I used the comfy seat (which is wider and much more comfy for my old wide but), took off the vinyl cover, got some really rough sand paper and a 1X2 for a sanding block, and went to work. Sanded it down, then made it flat (instead of the sloping to the rear as it comes - always felt like I was sliding down hill). Then took an old sleeping pad (1/2" closed cell I think) and built up the outside edges just a bit for better leg support and more surface area. Stapled vinyl back on, and voila, an absolutely great seat. Kind of like a poor-mans Dual Sport Russell, but without the bulk. Added an Alaskan Leather and now comfy for multi day trips (and a bit lower to boot - good for my 29" inseam). Took some trial and error, but well worth it. I dont ever use my airhawk any more. No need. I love my 625SXC and have used it on a few weekends and one 2-weeker. Have done a bunch of mods and wouldnt trade it! Good luck and cheers. Tim
