New F800GS ADVENTURE!!!

I've been waiting for an F800GS with a bigger tank since the 800 came out. Been farting around on an over farkled KLR in the mean time. Almost bought a Super Ten 2 years ago, now I'm glad I didn't. I'm buying one as soon as they hit the dealers (US).

Ok so the news is out.

'The Launch Edition' is 1000 units that will be in sandstorm and 1 per dealer for demo purposes with all the mods and extras you could add on (purely for the demo reasons) You will pay just the same as you would if you order it afterwards and there is zero difference between that and ordering it afterwards.

'The Price' is going to be $18,500 + onroads + add on's

'ETA on arrival' I was told it would be within 1.5 to 2months after the marketing and pricing stuff is sent to the dealers and that was sent 2 weeks ago. so maybe 1 to 1.5months.

Now given the fact there is quite a few of us hanging for one of these, perhaps we should get together a list of serious buyers and go hit up a dealer for however many of them?

So far theres 3 of us.. Me, robhrt and ararat..

I spoke with head office and they said they are not sure how many or when they will arrive until they are despatched from germany. So none are in ships or in transit yet.

BMW HO also confirmed there is no difference between the 'launch version' and the post release version, which is a shame.. if it had a different coloured seat or something we could keep em as collectables lol.. The first ever BMW that you could ride 500km without stopping for fuel! :eek1 thats got to be a collectable item doesn't it?

Test rode the 1200GSA for an entire day without (bike was in service) stopping for fuel and that was 550kms. Gave it back empty to the dealer since he told me not to refill it.

Pretty sure the R100GS Dakar had also a pretty good range.

I asked the local dealer about the GSA version....he said that apart from the fuel tank there'd be no point.

Honesty wont sell bikes.

But I appreciate it.

Spares is going to price the tank and sub frame when they appear on the system.

Thats right, so we have had quotes of 21 to 25k for the f800gsa with the extras to fit out like the launch edition..

It would be nice if they did that, if you are one of the first 1000 to buy, you get the launch edition extras for free.. But typical BMW wouldnt do such a great deal.. Instead they think they have enough of a following that people want it even at RRP.

I am quite tempted by the KTM 1190 Adv R.. 150hp sounds like its a lot of fun!

Can anyone in the first world please advise of any quotes they have obtained for the launch edition f800 GSA?

Really keen to find out the extra cost the rest of the world is getting compared to our country the socialist democratic Australia

It appears the launch edition is not coming to Australia

Pricing for the 800gs adventure is $21500 aud which is $21500 US dollars.

If the launch edition did come here it would be north of $25000 aud/usd on the street.

Quite frankly that is just a rip off.

Better to buy a standard gs800 and customize it.

I don't know if I'm getting the "launch edition". But it's coming with:

Some people make remarks about the price. It seems reasonable for a BMW. Not for a V-Strom or some other mid sized bikes. Besides, it's only money and you only go around once. Ask me, I know. I'm 71.

I was told the USA isn't getting the " Launch Edition". MSRP for a loaded one will be $15,545.

Wow so maybe it's a Europe only thing.

$15500 is 35% cheaper than our loaded version. (Assuming dollar is at parity)

This is always a tired argument. BMW dealers in California alone will sell more bikes next month than BMW Australia will in all of 2013. Assuming their staff salaries, building rents, utilities charges etc are pretty comparable, then the formula FIXED COSTS / UNIT SALES = MINIMUM PRICE is always going to work out cheaper if you live in the USA than in Australia. Combine that with the fact those fixed costs AREN'T comparable - salaries, rents, mortgages, and taxes are all less in the USA than here - and you end up with more expensive bikes. It's the price you pay for living here, not there.

Be glad you don't live in any part of Asia or South America, where the import duty on foreign bikes can cap 100% of the retail price.

Yup, A&S BMW in Sacramento CA is the highest selling BMW motorcycle dealer in the US and possibly world, and I believe the big dealer in LA is #3, not sure who holds #2 but it wouldn't surprise me if BMW San Diego was #2....a lot of GSs and RTs running around San Diego County.

I think your argument is well wrong and doesn't stack up. Why did BMW take an axe to pricing on October 2012? Taxes rent and wages haven't decreased by 10-15%. In fact they have all gone up!!!

This article shows a 10-15% price reduction across the whole range. Is that not real evidence of pricing what the market will bare? Of course it is.

The bike is made in Germany and shipped to Australia. Rent wages etc are but a tiny % of selling price.
