#Slim-Line In the manuel they says about: every 3200km but 4000 a 5000 km is fine. When you change it, recommed to change the oil filter too, and very important clean the oil screen [it's on the bottem of the oil frame]
Sorry, I don't agree... These engines are hard on oil.... every 3000km is wise... If the oil is getting close to being black, change it.... Thin black carbon filled oil doesn't lubricate or cool the engine the same as good clean oil does... :) (Edit: it probably depends on what sort of oil, and what sort of riding you're doing.... IMO, once the oil is black/burnt looking, change it)
True That- my engine seems to be on the rattly side slightly as well... but the technical manual i have says "oil+filter change every 6000km" but i'll take your advice on it, every 3000.
So I'm going to change my oil now, after a question i posted earlier about white residue on my dipstick. I haven't had the bike for a long time, so I have only changed oil once before. I drained all the oil out, put in half of the new oil, let it run for about 5 minutes and then put in the other half. I also changed the filter. Is this the right procedure? Also, I read somewhere about a sort of filter inside the frame that needs changing. What is this and where is it? Cheers!
There are two filters, one in the engine, the other is at the bottom of the front downtube, I check mine every year or so, they don't seem to gather much in the way of debris. You have to be careful when checking the downtube one as the hose can kink without you realising it if you just tighten the nut without taking care.
I'm looking for a stock NX650 gas tank. Preferably something without a lot of damage. I'll be sandblasting and painting it, so a few scratches is no big deal. Clean on the inside is the most important. Please PM me and we can work something out.
I just bought a 'new' Dommie as the old one had worn out, this one has only done 45,000 km and never seen a gravel road .....till now. There are some pics of my novel bike delivery http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?p=20114858#post20114858
Hmm am I so stupid that I haven't posted any pics Bought it 1996 19dkm Fixed a new clutch cable, and a new brake pump. and some tiny things. First winter: Painted the exhausts: Installed Hyperpro front and rear Got some nice tires, and put a high front mud thing [above the wheel]: Got my first jam:eek1 Got my second jam 1000km later :O ! Now got myself a 2nd hand donor domi. Fixed the engine onto my domi. and selling the other parts right know. Yesterday fixed my oil pump and now I can drive HELLYEAH! That's my little domi story :)
#Timieh Nice ride! i like the new colour scheme on the more recent domis- tell me something, what are these new tyres you purchased ? I've been looking for some but can't find anything other than tkc80's
It are Heidenau, Great tires, for almost every surface http://www.reifenwerk-heidenau.de/m...&rtyp=10&PHPSESSID=untj1s4t87nh139qlbppiu8h45 Got the K60 under my domi, and love those
I am afraid I am a Honda tragic. Not only do I have a XR650R, I am also the owner of two NX650s. The first one was a 89 model I bought off a friend for $1000 who sold it to me cheap knowing it was going to a good home. The other is a 92 that I bought for spares for $200. I have had a few great rides on the 89, the last being the Scrapheap Adventure ride this year,a charity ride to raise funds for Down Syndrome. http://scrapheapadventureride.com.au/ A ride that was over 2400kms of back roads. The Idea of the Scrapheap Adventure is to ride a bike that cost $1000 or less. I had so much fun on the ride this year I am going to do it again next year. This time I decided to see if I could actually get the spares bike to run and ride it. The poor old thing stood in the weather for years before I rescued it and dragged into my shed and it was in a sad state of disrepair with many parts missing, including the seat and a myriad of bolts. It would turn over but it had no spark. I robbed a few parts off the good NX and soon worked out the CDI was no good as I got it to fire and run with the donor CDI. We cut the blown CDI open and resoldered all the joints and it works fine now. Many man hours later I took it for spin around my yard and she goes well and doesnt blow any smoke at all and there are no rattles!! I decided to run a XR600 front guard on it just to be different and I am toying with weather to refit the fairing to it or run it naked for the Scrapheap Adventure It is slowly getting closer to a proper shakedown ride in the near future.
I like the look of newer side panels with the older model fairings it streamlines it and makes it look newer.
I have come across a couple of issues mixing and matching. As it was a 92 model the indicators were originally in the fairing, the earlier model had them coming off the headlight mount so there is no where to mount the front indicators as the later model headlight bracket doesn't have the mounting tabs for the indicators. The earlier model fairings don't fit the 92 model fuel tanks either, so I used an older tank, only to find then I had to use an older seat, which in turn causes the rear rack not to fit properly and the side covers don't want to fit neatly without modifications either! All part of the fun!
