Sounds like an excellent start for a great ADV bike build!
I have always liked the 920 engine and have thought it could be a great bike once the ugly is stripped away. :eek1

I'm kind of shooting for something like the CB750 that LHC built, only focusing more on function than form. If you look closely at that pretty machine...it has no rear brake! but the reversible rear wheel to change gearing is certainly a different take on the two-sprocket idea (I almost did dual sprockets on my TW).

I think tonight I'm going to try taking some pictures of the mostly torn-apart VX. Last night the exhaust came in, and the DT100 rear fender as well. Looks like I have some hammering and welding to do!

I'm still debating on either picking up a set of crash bars from ebay to modify, or custom-building my own crashbar/skidplate (my manual tubing bender sucks so not looking forward to that).

RE: the One Motorycle Show bike...that's Classified Moto's take two on the VX920

I kind of prefer the more raw appeal of the first edition:

I do like the two-into-one exhaust better on the re-do though.

    UPDATE: Started a build thread.

I got this bike last year and it has been in storage other than periodic starts and rides.

I was going to maybe make it more cafe bike but would rather make it into a dirt road/fire road bike.

I have ordered some decals and am thinking yellow fenders, tank, side covers. PO had spray painted the frame and wheels/spokes black.

Once I get the painting going i will post more pics. But this is what the bike looks like with side covers off. I do have the side covers but they have broken tabs. I have started learning about plastic welding and repairs using ABS cement and ABS powder.

Mechanically the bike runs perfect, got a carb rebuild by a pro, new tires, etc.

    Thanks,
    Simba

Personally I think that is a great platform to build a D/S bike. I was looking for one of these for my wife to do just that. (I'm sure she would like the auto trans version).

Keep us posted - or post link if you do a specific build thread.

Yep, after two trips through Mexico and lots of daily commuting I'm going to cut up my 2005 Aprilia Tuono. I'm getting inspiration from the bikes the Icon1000 guys are building and the guys in this thread. Sort of Mad Max meets dual sport, but this wasteland warrior will have 6 speeds, 130 horsepower and a redline of 10k.

    Starting with this...

This really isn't a dual sport but I built it for my wife to run dirt roads. We are 2/3 of the way thru our 6,000 mile Alaskan trip, which has included over 800 miles of dirt/gravel roads so far. It's a 94 GS500

    Wow,

this is one of the best looking bikes I have ever seen :-) Does anybody have any information about it? Link to the build thread or something simmilar?

It is part of a series of bikes built by Icon. Kind of a "end of the world" theme. This one is nice, but the Ural is my favorite by far.

Great looking modern day scrambler. I love a bike that's not afraid to keep going when others would turn around.
