Not sure if you have found this site yet--- http://www.bigcee.com/klr650faq.html

It is the Bible for KLR's. I actually printed the whole thing and bound it for use in the garage.

    I have a question-
Has anyone, besides me, had problems with loosing the two screws that hold on the side fairings from vibration? I would lock-tite them, but I am constantly doing something that requires them off. What a pain-in-the-ass!

Yeah, it happens. I lock-tited mine, and keep a small tube of lock-tite on the bike. One idea I picked up (from JudJonzz, I think) is to leave the two seat bolts out. The seat will stay in without shifting much at all and you get quick access underneath.

I ride with a 30lb. Corbin flat. I am not sure if I want the thing flopping around. hahaha

It barely fits on the bike, and take two guys to push it down to line the holes.

I am worried about constantly stipping the screws if I add lock-tite.

Don't use the red Loctite. It's overkill for this application. One drop of Loctite blue will prevent loosening from vibration but won't strip the threads.

That was one of the first ones that poped up when I first started looking into the KLR (bigcee's referance). :D Also... I know that the constant locktight procedure is a pain but KEEP your eyes peeled for Loctight in a new "to ME" form of dispencer.. It's in a "GLUE STICK" form.. Don't know if anyone else has seen this yet but it comes in all of the different Styles... RED BLUE WHITE COPPER "anti seise"? Real easy to pack.. just a thought JAY!

I tried that, now I only have one seat tab :baldy

Your seat will move if you try to ride a KLR like a dirtbike.

New KLR owner here. I like the PVC tool tubes but don't they take a beating from rocks? I'd hate to lose all of my tools in the middle of nowhere.

    Okay you win!!!!

I like it.... just make it work with my Happy-Tails Dakar bars and I'll pick one up!

Any chance of him doing a headlight swap at the same time? Thats my biggest complaint, over the "look" of the front fairing.

Basicly something like this guy did.

    http://www.motorcycleexplorer.com/mod's/mudflap.html

Instead of using rubber and zip ties to hold it....

I cut a rectangle from a 1 gallon milk jug and bolted it in place to make a mud flap. I used 2 little bolts, washers on each side, doubled up on the nuts to lock it down and never loose it.
I think zip tiies would break. Anyhow it does help alot with keeping mud off the shock. It's been on my bike for a few thousand miles. It just rubs the center of the swingarm and hasn't gone anywhere.
Rear KLR shock is expensive so 15 minutes of my time to do this little mod is well worth it IMO.

It's almost like Kawasaki was gonna do this and cheaped out.
If you notice there are two holes on that plastic under fender right near the shock. I bet they left it out fiquring they'ed just charge you alot of money for a replacement shock like they do when it fails over time. I truely believe it will extend the life of the shock

What is the advantage to using a milk carton vs. an inner-tube?

Maybe one works better then the other. I don't know.
You'd have to decide for yourself. Shit, there are alot of materials that you can make something like this. Just look around and be creative.

I couldn't find the original link that I got this mod idea from but they used milk carton, so that's what I did. The link I posted for you the dude used a thick piece of rubber. Maybe if I found the other link first I'd have used the rubber.

I wouldn't use an inner tube because it's not as hard and sturdy.

    More power to you!

I wish I actually had the knowledge and resources to come up with half the shit that I have read about. My fabricating skills end at building a sandwich! :dg

Living in the Pines with all the mud and sand, that mod might not be a bad idea.
