i have noticed on my rides in the philippines which is quite a hot place that my xr250 is running really hot!! When i ride my right foot is feeling the heat and when i park up even the metal tank is hot! After an hour or so the fins are still burning hot to the touch. I know at the moment that my oil is on the "lower" point of the stick and is honda standard mineral. I am a bit worried that maybe the engine is suffering because of this. I am considering going to 100 percent synthetic because it is supposed to be better in coping with the high heat and also filling it to the "upper" level of the dip stick marker. My bike is one of those newer types where the oil is held in the frame. The oil I had in mind was Castrol Power1 4T 10w/50 simply because that was the only synthetic available in my local ace hardware.....although im wondering if my clutch will like this viscosity?? So what do you guys think... a good idea or not??
I only use mobile 1 racing 4t fully synthetic for 4 strokes in all my bikes. If you can't buy it there try and order it. In all my research this outperforms the rest. As far as my own 250r in southern az, I've been in 100+ degree weather and obviously my bike was hot but nothing like what you describe. If anyone has read studies to the contrary I would love to hear about them. Or their own personal favorites.
Fill it up first. My bike ran a good bit hotter when it was near the lower end of the hashes. I did not run synthetic but changed out the oil every few rides (kind of, it was sucked past the bad valve seals and required about every 2-300 miles depending on how much compression braking I used )
ah good ..maybe im running low then .. i hope thats the problem is but synthetic should help as well!!... i hope
Hey scoutÂ…I hope this XR air filter information and photos help: http://www.uniflow.com.au/contents/en-us/d70_02.html<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o> <o> </o>
Does anyone have an opinion on the Trail Tech Endurance Computer? http://www.xrsonly.com/parts-categories-1/dual-sport/trail-tech-endurance-computer I'm the new owner of a 2000 XR250R and will be working to get it street legal over the next few weeks. I will be doing this on a dime.....so am wondering what the a best solutions for the money are for......a horn?
If I needed a solution, that would probably be it. Bicycle horn, squeeze bulb type. If you bother with it. AZ law requires the horn be heard from 200 ft away, I don't know what CO requires.
so, I guess I should update my progress. for those who dont remember, I have an 02 with Edelbrock pumper carb that HAD a no-start condition. I was really starting to hate the bike, but I did finally get her running this past saturday...so naturally I immediately loaded it in the truck and drove out to Perry State forest to do some riding...mini ride report here: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28732&page=2437 bike performed excellently (better than the rider did, tho I didnt lay her down at all, which I'm proud of....its been 25 years since I rode trail on 2 wheels) and I had a fun time getting muddy. anyway, here's what finally turned the trick for me. as I was at my wits end with the bike, I took the advice of ValveCrusher and replaced the pulse generator, since it was only a $30 part. The part arrived a day or two before my road trip to Tennessee on the Magna, so it sat on the shelf for 10 days until I could get around to it. I was off Friday and it was a rainy day so I spent it in the garage. Pulled the left side cover, spent and hour cutting a new gasket, reassembled, put fresh oil in and.... nothing...well, almost nothing....she wanted to start but just wouldnt quite get there. with nothing to lose, I decided to pull the carb and see what there was to see in there. it comes off pretty easy once the gas tank is out of the way. tore it open and spent 2 hours cleaning the shit out of everything with carb cleaner. got the carb reassembled and back on the bike. called it a day at that point as it was getting dark and my garage isn't well lit. next morning i was up at 9 and in the garage by 10. checked over the previous nights work and then put the tank on....filled it up with fresh 92 octane and gave her a kick....and she almost started....tried again and she actually caught fire for about 5 seconds....kept trying and was getting nothing, so I said, screw it and pushed her down the street to the hill. got a good running start and jumped on....coasted down to almost the end of the hill and popped the clutch (in 2nd gear instead of 3rd, again on the advice of someone (valvecrusher again?)) and GLORY HALLELUJAH she fired and ran!!!! ran her up and down the road for about 20 minutes, stopping to adjust idle and pump shot a few times...then shut her off to see how easy she'd restart. once warmed up, she's a 1 or 2 kick bike. dont know if it was the carb cleaning (nothing really seemed dirty in there and there isnt much in a pumper carb to clog up) or the pulse generator that did the trick, or maybe a combination of the two... but regardless, I got her running and thats the main thing. I wanna thank any and all of you fine folks for all the advice and assistance provided here. I dont know if I could have done it without yinz. now, who's up for a ride?
Glad that it worked out in the end, they are fun bikes. I tried to read your ride report but you linked with the page number (copying the address when you are on the page as it shows on your computer). I have my page settings different from default. If you click the number in the upper right of your post (whatever post you want other people to see), it is the number of the post in that thread, and you can copy the address and it will get anyone to that post (but not the thread, unless they changed another setting somewhere...)
I was wondering if anyone would notice the seat. The guy I purchased from is about 5'7" tall. He had the stock foam removed, replaced with high dollar medical, memory foam and then had the original cover reattached. He said.....after that, I could touch the ground with both feet. The seat is surprisingly comfortable. This mod is awesome.....as this bike is for my 5'9" wife.
awesome looking bike. wish they still made it for sale in the states...even better if it was street legal.
I took my wife for a weekend getaway. While gone, the boys dove into the bike to make it "mountain ready". Then they....prepared it, to give to their Mom!!!! How about the "before and after" of the air filter..... They completely went through the carb..... They completely tore down the ProLink, cleaned and relubed..... Here's a couple of pics....next to my baby....my 650R.... As husband and wife...we should just look cute on these babies....!!!! And.....we give it to her.... a big surprise... including the boys rolling it into the kitchen!!!!
