How did your steed hold up under all that punishment? Did you encouter any unpaved roads or tricky riding on your quest?

Fantastic ride! How did the body & mind hold up? Any tips for longevity in the saddle?

No problems with the bike. Just the broken headlight in Texas.
The roads were great. No unpaved roads until I crossed the border into Alaska.

The first 3 days were the hardest. It did get easier after that.

I work out a lot before the rides. 60 situps a day for 5 months.
Plus weights and a treadmill and eliptical machine.
I really think the situps give me the back strength to do the rides.

We ran into the HyderSeek guys in 2009 on our way north. Couldnt believe that people actually did that type of trip. Heard stories of sleeping on picnic tables, etc.

On this past trip I had a hard time finding a motel room in the northeast. All the motels were full!
At one motel I offered the guy at the desk $50 if I could sleep 3 hours on the sofa in the lobby. He said no.
I also slept on a picnic table in Utah. That was just a mid-day nap.

On the 48 state trip I slept on a bench at a truck stop. Saves a lot of time.

WOW. I can ride but ... whew. I aint never going to try that.

What was your diet like on the road. I always struggle with that when I'm out on the road, too much junk food.

I was reading a ride story about a 48 state ride and the first thing I thought was "thats crazy!" and then "I wonder if I could do that?".

And then the planning began.

Diet? Not good.
I had cereal in the morning. Dinner was truck stop food and it had to be something I could eat while pacing.

My favorite states on this ride were Idaho, Oregon, Washington, the ride through B.C. and Alaska.

No tickets. I hold my speed to no more than 10 over. I have a CDL license so I don't take chances.
Also watching for cops for 10 days would be too stressful.

No music on this trip, I probably will on future trips. I did wear ear plugs.

The east coast was nice but can be very challenging on a timed ride. A lot of traffic and toll roads.

Rides for 2011. I am hoping to try another IBA ride that hasn't been done on a Victory. I'm still planning that ride.

Thanks for posting all this good information. I finished back to back SS1000 and BBG 1500's over Thanksgiving, as a prep for the 48-10. I too started with the "that's crazy" thought, when I read about the 48-10. Then I got to thinking....

I'm planning on doing the 48-10 in late April. I know that's kind of early with the potential for snow in a few places. But that's the only time that works until much later in the year. I'd rather ride in cold temps than the 90's.

The cracked headlight reminded me that I need to put on a headlight and oil cooler guard.

What did you use for a throttle lock or wrist rest? Not sure if the Victory has a cruise control.

I used a BrakeAWay throttle lock and the Cramp Buster wrist rest. Both worked great.

Impressed doesn't begin to cover it.

What is the range of the gas tank? And the aux?
