I hit a deer on father's day. About a 30 mph dead on collision. I'm taking it apart to fix it and the cockpit support appears to be bent. What do you think? Have a photo of the way its supposed to be?
Found this: Do a search for "acc1 site:advrider.com" in google and you'll find lots of photos. I just watched a few pics and none of them showed that bend
First of all, I'm guessing that you are thankfully ok from the collision with the deer, I often fear that myself given the night-time riding I do on occasion - yeah, that support is definitely bent but it is aluminum so perhaps it could be coaxed back into shape...
That support looks better than my shoulder and ribs. I hit that deer on a nice sunny day, in the woods. About noon. You aren't safe at anytime with those forest rats around.
That's bent. Good news is you can bend it back in a bench vise, like I did this spring. Bone head in the center lane took me out of the left lane on a 3 lane one way road.:eek1:eek1 Thank goodness speed was only 25mph. I took all the components off the weldment and had at it with a rubber mallet in my bench vise. The right size of wood was also used to hold the weldment in the vise. Take your time now or pay for it later when working on the bike in the future.
