Original Acerbis 44 liter spun nylon tank. I think HPN sells the same now.

I have had this one since 1990 or so... I forget.

HPN and Touratech sell the Acerbis tanks... always was this way AFAIK

You can also get the tanks directly from Acerbis dealers OUTSIDE the US.... it's on the Acerbis.IT web listing (or was at any rate)

That bladder would certainly outlast mine. :lol3 Where are you planning to go that you need 44 L of fuel? Even the remotest of areas (at least in the US) have a gas station every hundred miles or so. By a quick calc, assuming 40 mpg, that tank gives a 400 mile range with a gallon or so reserve!

The tank was designed by HPN, made by acerbis. Look next to the petcock on one side and you'll see 'HPN' molded into the plastic along with the production year.

Indeed. All these years, I never looked. It is on the left hand side on mine. Trying to suss out the year...

Ah, October 1991. I guess I was in my 10th year of BMW riding at that point.

awesome machine loco! and to think, you could have turned it into a cafe bike and made it practically useless!:rofl

my /7 has been following a similar path over the years. heinrich tank, alum panniers, beefed up suspension. kinda like a two wheeled pickup.

Well... I look at that bike and think of it as very easy machine to transform. Put on small tank, "S" fairing, poof. Ersatz sport bike.

It is truly a mongrel. The bars are off an BMW 650 P/D, plastic fantastic whatever rear fender. Airbox is long gone.

It sounds very good after I repacked the exhaust baffeling. What remained prior refurb was pitiable at best. Where it once sounded like a banshee on full wail, it no has a basso profundo boom that is very pleasing.

    Hmm. My petcocks are metal.

Gas cap, not so much. OEM BMW Paris/Dakar tank cap. I lost the key many moons ago. Or maybe it's in the collection of keys I have in an old System I ash tray ceramic I found years ago at a BMW auto dealer - who sold it to me for $10.

MaxBMW got me the oil pan gasket zippy fast. If I have time tonight, or in the next couple, I plan on draining the oil, replacing the pan gasket (and taking a hard look at the pan before cleaning it up) and then doing a tune up. Then I plan on riding it for a long, long time.

It is ugly, but it sure is functional.

Ah, more garage time. Great dinner, good Merlot. Natrile gloves. Pulling the oil pan off Das Beast.

    This could get interesting.
