LIght bar and lights for an old R1100GS

I'm temporary leaving out side US now and just bought an old but low mileage R1100GS
Yes... that commemorative one!!! Red and White!

Now, among other things, I need to put lights on it since the stock one is not that good (remember that rectangular one?)

I'm looking for a small set of HID that I could mount on the a bar that could be fixed under the bumper, on the same hardware that the oil cooler is.

Do you know any one who makes that bar and would you recommend a set of small HID? (small like the ones on the new 1200GSAdventure).

NOT HID, but LED with less power draw and more light output.

Make your own, it is cheap and simple. I made this from a piece of aluminum square tube from a towel hanger:



I also advocate ADVMonster LEDs from the Vendor section.

I have a light bar for an 1100GS that I'd be willing to sell, if you're interested I can post pics.

These are the same lights that Yamaha now sells as an OEM accessory for the Super Tenere. Very high quality and great output with a nicely focused beam that won't annoy oncoming traffic.





But if you like the Chinese lights, round up a few friends for a group buy and you can get them for $50 apiece on Alibaba.

I'm assuming you had the oil cooler screws replaced for a long ones. By any chance you remember the length of it?

Good idea if the bike takes a nap, the tube will give way.

flat aluminum bar from lowes, about $7, enough to make 3 or 4 light bars.
all the hardware spacers, and bolts from lowes too, a few bucks worth, dont make the bolts too long, or you might screw them right into the oil cooler.

does the flat stock vibrate much? I have some L stock to experiment with.

I dont know how much is too much?

left side bulb has been replaced, right side is original, 55 watt H3s, they comeon when the bike isrunning ( automagically)

bike has been down a few times, didnt break or bend, bar and lights have been in place for 15K miles

I don't, but they are about a inch longer than the stock ones. I got them from Aces, ss ones. I added a small spacer above them to clear the bodywork.

Everyone's suggestions are great! The square tube and flat stock, are all easy to make.

As far as lights, there are so many options.

My choices were a leg off an old half destroyed metal desk, which worked great! Plus, I have three more spares. And for lights, they came off one of the old rally cars that was out back. Make sure you get a wiring harness with the light kit.

So making a light bar for the 1100GS can be quite easy, and inexpensive.
