Cheers Trail, I did see them and everybody seems well happy with his gear but I'd like some nylon ones. (don't like adding weight if I can help it ;))
I've done a bit of nerding and it looks like Delrin is the kid for the job but i'm going to speak to somebody a the vendors on Monday and see what they have to say.
The Mrs needs a set as well so it about £100 ($150) from Stephan but 10 bucks if I make them myself :)

delrin is way too to soft!!!!
The idea with replacing the stock aluminum ones is to use a harder material that wont groove when contaminants get in. If you wanna keep weight down make another set in some harder aluminum, like a 7000 series. Or use a 6000 series Al but make a couple sets and keep replacing them when they get buggered!

I had me wheels off not long ago and the spacers didnt look all that bad yet.

There are much better ways to cut weight off the bike than wheel spacers.

    Righto.
I fitted an ultra-light battery to my X, a Shorai LiFePO4 (Lithium Iron).
It weighs a whopping 730 grams / 1.61 Lbs. Cuts down weight by 6.32 Lbs / 2.86 kg, high up on the bike. Seems to work great. :1drink

    Hi snooker,

I get rim locks from Ariete up to 4,25" rims! Maybe the next size who fits from 3.00" is better for the xcountry rim!

    cheers stephan.

I´ve been wondering whether I should make aluminium wheel spacers, coated with a layer of hard nickel!
It looks like gold and the surface is more hard than stainless steel!

I've been running the Sycl battery made by Herrhelmet here on ADV. No issues with it yet and it weighs nothing compared to a normal battery.

You know the cheapest thing on a BMW is the rider:rofl (i hope that joke translates well).

    What will they cost?

I'm assuming these batteries are smaller than standard as they have a higher charge density. Would it be possible to mount them in front of the fuel tank in the space occupied by the ABS pump on the ABS bikes. That would be good for mass centralisation and give a useful storage space for a spare tube where the battery currently sits.

Yes, this battery takes up significantly less space. You could probably put a tube in with the battery in the normal location.

I know that Jim took some pictures of the installation. I'll see if he can put them up here.

I think so too, because if the rider is broken after a chrash, the health insurance will pay for it:wink::wink::wink:

I think the nickel coatet 7075 T6 aluminium wheel spacer will cost the same like the stailless steel spacers!

Would you use a metal bush and washers either side with the Delrin?

Never seen it used before by itself where 2 objects are tightened hard up against it.

Going on what I've found out so far there's no need, some types of Delrin are impregnated with PTFE and used as bearing bushes!

So you think it will be lighter and harder than the stainless steel ones Stephan, and the same price? Sounds worth trying :D:evil:1drink

How thick would the hard nickel layer be?

I've got a chunk of 2" round stock delrin that I was messing around with. Its really fun to turn on the lathe. Deep cuts and fast feeds are possible. Maybe I should make some spacers?

I made axle nubbins out of it.

If you are going to make spacers you'll need to know what grade it is as there are over 10 very different types!

Maybe 0,1mm. The hard nickel layer have ~ 56 HRC (Rockwell) hardness.
(diamond have 70 HRC and I think bearing steel have ~ 60 HRC or maybe a little bit less!)
