Over the years, we developed and patented innovative solutions that are still the golden standard for excellence like, for example, our DPS Airbag system that you can find in Venture DPS Airbag Jacket from 2010:

    Hi guy (RDR?)
We're pleased you're going to enjoy your Carbosix.
As you surely know, riders like Colin Edwards or Marco Melandri use Carbosix gloves for several years now.
This model has been launched in 2005, and re-styled several times in order to get all the changes required by top riders around the world. Through the years some protection zones has been changed from Carbon to Carbon/Metal mix and some stitches has been reinforced.
We can now say it is the perfect racing glove in our collection; a prove of this is that one model fits now all our riders: Colin Edwards, Marco Melandri and Cal Crutchlow are just some of these Carbosix-lovers.

A reason of this has to be found in the incredible feeling associated to maximum protection: the hardest target in designing a top of the range protection-instrument is the magic combination of these 2 elements, finding the optimal balance between safety and comfort.

We used a lot of this experience to create our touring range, with our latest release Carbo Winter as a next benchmark in winter-touring market, have a look here.

Does Spidi offer any waist length (sport jacket) jackets for sale in the US that have a waterproof membrane (not liner)? If so can they be purchased through current Spidi distributors? I bought a Gara leather jacket recently. Other than the fact its a short in the arms which I can't fault the manufacture for since I bought online, its a nice jacket.

Hey man...that's not exactly a "product", more a technology that we use in MotoGP.

    read on....

Maintaining the rider cool inside the suit and managing to contain his body temperature even at high environmental temperatures: these are the reasons the AIS (Anatomic Intercooler System) is born.

Back in 2004, the AIS cooling system was developed by Spidi for Sete Gibernau for what was going to be the hottest race of the year: the Qatar GP at Losail, then held during the day. The AIS was integrated in Sete’s racing suit guaranteeing him a better comfort and thus improving the rider's overall safety.

AIS technology originally was developed by ESA (European Space Agency) and Grado Zero Espace research centre in Italy. Spidi took this concept and trasferred it to motorcycling: a ‘personal cooling system’ technology previously used in Formula 1 and aerospace that no one imaged could have been transferred to a motorcycle racing suit.

“By far, the most difficult thing was to integrate all the AIS vital components with the anatomy of the suit, because we could just not compromise on the original safety and fitting of Sete’s suit. It’s been tough, but in the end I can say we are really satisfied by the result”, explains Pietro Zanetti, director of Spidi Safety Lab.

The cooling system is based on water cooled by icy gel running through a serpentine that is placed across the chest and around the neck. This serpentine is then integrated into a custom-made anatomic vest to be worn under the suit, while an ultra light battery and a micro water pump are inserted inside the suit hump and conntected to the circuit.
All these elements integrate so well into our racing suits that the Hydroback system can sit alongside it and provide extra comfort. Usually, every rider chooses the use them both.

    Here is how AIS looks:

Thing is the switch to MotoGP raised the bar for high temperatures in racing: those 1000cc engines were devastatingly hot for pursuing riders who had to face 120°F to 140°F all while trying to overtake during a World GP race...now, that is the definition of ROUGH.

That's why first we decided to try to give Sete an egde, who was one of the favourite to win the Championship back then. And now we are still providing this system to our riders who demand it: basically the same Sete wore but with lighter, more durable batteries.

Over the years, the system proved to be very hard to market as the components used would be too expensive for general public, especially the ESA engeneered pump which is still sold at an unmanagebale price. Also, on average, the system provides cooling for about 50 minutes/1 hour (the time of a single MotoGP race) and then you have to cool it back again with icy gel bars. That's decisely not something for the general rider.

However, we have made progress in the cooling field as we developed a simpler, more essential system of helping the riders out there with the AIRACK VENTILATION SYSTEM (featured by Granturismo Pro jacket).

Here you can see it applied on Granturismo Pro jacket: you can open/close the channels to activate/de-activate the air channeling accoring to outer temperature. These channels are integrated into the jacket's build: they are ultra light and barely detectable. This is one of our patents focused on riders' comfort.

    Dear Swimmer,

we're glad about you're satisfied about you Gara leather jacket; for your information, the design of this jacket comes from Aldo Drudi, personal designer of many top riders around the world.
The jacket can be customized with a H2Out membrane (waterproof and breathable), called Rain Chest. Indeed Gara features our own Step-in-clothing technology, developed by Spidi 15 years ago, giving riders the possibility to use items 365 days a year, customizing products even buying additional after-sales components. For example you can buy a full-mesh jacket such as Net GP and make it waterproof / breathable adding Rain Chest, or Warmer for cold weather adding Thermo Liner.
Coming to your question about a racing jacket, Spidi Vampire H2Out would be your case? If you want to find the right jacket for your style, please use our search engine (select for example Man | Textile Jacket | Touring) from this page : http://www.spidi.com/eu/eu_en/spidicatalog
Most of Spidi products are available in USA through local dealers, or upon request if not available on stock. You can check dealer list here http://www.wps-inc.com/wps/WILOCATOR1.pgm .

    Hi GY333,

this suit has been released in year 2000, named Slider Wind Tracksuit. Was available in perforated version too. A leather jacket with similar design was released the same year. It has been a great success until new generation of built-in-protectors was launched by Spidi.

Let me know if you need additional help.

Thank you very much for your response. Just one more question. Until when was this Slider Wind Tracksuit manufactured?

BTW, this one is fully perforated. It just doesn't show in the photo. It also has the areo hump in the back.

    Hi Gy,

yes yours' Slider Wind Tracksuit. It has been one of our first Suits with big Aerodinamic Hump on the back. Last production was 2003.
you can find our full leathersuit collection in www.leathersuit.com

Main sub-categories are bovine leather / kangaroo leather suits. Kangaroo leather (used by all our MotoGP and World Superbike riders) is much thinner than bovine (0,7 cms vs. 1,3) providing same abrasion performance, this resulting in a lighter kit (minus 1 kg).

Kangaroo leather is also more expensive, more difficult to find in high-quality serie, but resulting in much more comfortable suit.

I've had a Spidi textile jacket for over 10 years, not sure of the model, but it's long and a greeny colour, hard armour in elbows and shoulders, foam back protector. It has a zip in liner, and some vents in the front.I use it for all my riding,on the road in all weathers,I've used it on adventure rides, and it's always covered in dust from all the gravel roads I ride. The white membrane in the sleeves is starting to flake off,but otherwise it's in great shape.I've had leather jackets not last this long.I'd be lost without it.

    thanks for the report.
We can not recognize jacket from your description, it should be very nice if you'd post a picture of it (and you wearing it of course!).
