I was just at bajadad house and the difference is in the size of the display. It's enough that I would use a big boy ICO when I have the money.
Here is the link to the Watchdog http://www.dugasengineering.com/dewebsite_002.htm Nice big numbers and very rugged.
Thankfully, my eyes are still doing good....it's everything else I've hit trees, the ground(many times) and the WD never misses a beat. *EDIT* I was just on Google maps, showing my Wife all the places I went in MX..... The Taco stand in Todos Santos, the Fish taco stand in LaPaz, the Taco stands in Mexicali, the Hotel Buffet in Cabo hahaha
my Ico has been bullet proof . now if there was a good heading repeater. I have one but it has a lagg thru my garmin Scott what do you use ?
I use the digital heading display in my Garmin 76cx. But I'll soon be buying the repeater from Schattat: http://www.rallyenavigationsolutions.com/compass_repeater_xl.html For the Mexican 1000, you should not need a heading repeater nor the GPS displayed heading since threre is no "HP" (no road or trail). The whole race is on visible roads, even on the dry lakes. The 2013 roadbook may include some headings, but it's just an additional piece of information that might be slightly helpful but usually not. Now if NORRA decides to make things more challenging, they may make the headings important, but I doubt they will go that way for the Mexican 1000, at least not for 2013. On the other hand, how many people got lost last year in the first 3 miles of dirt because there were so many criss-crossing roads that made it confusing? Using the roadbook headings there could have saved some people a lot of trouble. Jonah Street would have never gotten lost there because he uses headings everywhere possible. I made several special training roadbooks just for him that had no tulip drawings at all, only mileages and headings. He could ride hundreds of miles with only mileages and headings. If the Diabolical Rally ever happens, you won't make it through the first 10 miles without a compass. Most stages start with just an initial compass heading and the words "go HP"! Several stages are 100% HP.
I use one of Tony's repeaters and it works great. It's the older version with the smaller digits. His new "XL" stuff looks great. Rally Management Services is the US distributor for Tony's gear. We're just waiting for production to ramp up. There are a number of top riders testing his new "XL" line at this years Dakar. Dave
I have an ertf repeater with a patch cord from tony for my 60csx but i found a delay that was hard to deal with at any kinda speed. Maybe his direct unit will be better . Scott i realize that I wont need it for the M1K . But I want to be prepared for the GR. or the D1K .
I would expect the delay to be similar since I think Tony's unit does pretty much the same thing as the ERTF. A repeater just takes the data from your GPS, and displays the heading based on that data. The GPS itself is a major part of the delay. I have the same problem reading the heading right off the screen of the GPS. It takes 2 or 3 seconds to give you the right answer.
Oh yeah is there any chance that this wording will change the 400cc class to 450 on bikes.....just wondering because I have a WR450 that I could throw a big tank on....and yes I know it's Honda country but I'm on a budget.
If I do this again next year it will be on my WR450 this time so you won't be the only one riding blue When I was gearing up for the Tuareg (which I canceled due to injury... which I hope to recover from in time for the Mex1K) I ordered one of the 10L rear safari tanks. That along with the Acerbis tank I have on there now (15L I think) I should be a supertanker!
That is exactly what I'm probably going to do. I already have the 3.6 on it now just going to add the 1.3(5L) safari to the back. Just need to send my suspension off to get done, it's too soft for HS so I know it would be terrible in Baja.
