I will give this a try when I get back from my week on the bike.

My switch is on/off . Should it work ok or do I need to change to momentary ?

You want on off.

After putting some miles on mine. Momentary would work too. All Personal preference. With on off you can just leave it off all day. Momentary it resets when you turn your ignition back on. all in all a great product though.

If I want to do a lighted switch should I use a relay or can I wire this directly? Or should I just not be fancy and get regular on/off switch?

You don't need to wire it direct to anything.
A lighted switch would be overkill.
Hell, no switch needed if you don't mind taking your seat off to plug and unplug it.
Just a regular switch will do.
