I put that thing under the "just because you can, doesn't mean you should" category... That can't be fund to drive around in unless it's sole purpose is "HEY LOOK AT ME!" :D

Hey, Rob, BTW... Have you had any idle issues with your Tiger? A fellow on our ride last Saturday had some, very similar to when i started mine too fast without letting computer finish tests, but he did that several times and it still didn't want to idle. Ran it for an hour and a half of slab on way home and he said it was okay once it got home... Just trying to research issues in case I have them one day! :norton

I had the no idle no start w/out throttle plenty of times early on. I worked around it by turning the key off & on until it would start & idle. After it fires up & idles, then it would work perfect until I turned the key off again. It's the stepper motor throttle roller connection. It needs to be clean & lubed. If its dry or dirty, then it can cause it to not reset all the way to zero. Turning the key off for 30 seconds makes that reset (fax machine) sound. During that sound the stepper motor retracts fully. If it screws up you can try to spray wd40 or some other lube into the area. It's on the brake side just under the tank & above the motor. Here's some pics.

Mine has been perfect ever since Wayne replaced my stepper motor & lubed everything. My old one was bone dry & would mess up from time to time.

Supa, it was just a bad joke. I do like the cup holders.

Thanks, Rob. Looks like I need to be experienced at tank removal and getting access to this area! May print out your pics and put them in the top of my tank bag for reference!!! :D Do you have the service manual?

Yes. I bought the service Manual. According to the manual, everything was correct with my stepper motor. However, it was bone dry. Wayne replaced it anyway & sprayed everything with some universal Teflon lube.
You can see it w/out removing anything. Just be sure you don't screw up the clearence shown in that book photo.

The Daytona sportbike guys have made a screw idle adjuster to replace the automatic stepper motor. If I have anymore issues after my warranty runs out, then I may go that route.

I'll be riding this weekend after I get done shooting Saturday. I'm also available this week during the day. Is your XR400 street legal?

I think I saw your bike at the wal mart in Madison about a month ago. I know it was an xr400 with SM tires.
