Did our fix, bought some mesh a the market in Antigua for 5 Q then cut it to fit.

Should slow down the main lot of shit flying straight in anyway, time will tell.

But keep an eye on it because I suspect this finer mesh will clog more easily.

Yes but at least I can clean it easier too :clap

Found a skunky old tooth brush on the road and cleaned it up too so I can clean the mesh quickly .... see how it goes.

Hopefully keep the lower cores cleaner anyway

I note you guys are using the old tank brace round tube jobbie.

There is an updated part number that Safari tanks can get to you that helps in clearance & wont break like the one your using.

It seems my "new-style" brace needs some slight modification. It's rubbing on each side of the radiator, both on the seam and the corner. Sorry for the poor phone pics, but you get the idea. You can see bare aluminum if you look closely. I was actually thinking about calling up to request the old style brace for this reason.

I think my R/R is gone. Voltage readings at the battery are basically unchanged when running. :cry

    Searches here indicate two choices....

    Ricksmotorsportelectrics.com

    Rodstercycle.com

Both are mosfet versions and not OEM, Any other options out there?

    What's the preferred relocation spot?

Just a thought here, Within a group of 5 SE's I know of that had the VR go out, mine included, were running Shoria batteries. In doing research as to what could be happening, I have come to the conclusion (opinion) that the wattage that our bikes put out, and how "clean" or "dirty" the power going to the battery is may actually be part of the problem. It seems that the non lead acid batteries, i.e. LiPo, AGM, have an inability to efficiently absorb and smooth out the power being sent to them from the VR. This power then gets sent back to the system, and the VR, which in turn cooks it. I would suggest going back to a lead acid battery and a mosfet VR and see how that lasts. I have also gone through 3 GM high output 1 wire alternators on my musclecar, which has always had an Optima red top "AGM" battery in it. The reg in the alternator would keep burning out. 4th new alternator and a new lead acid battery and we'll see how she lasts.

FWIW 70K stock VR in stock location with a stock battery. I do have a spare at home though after reading these kind of posts just in case, it's also hardly hot up here compared to where some of you Yanks live.

Fwiw, my SE VR went out at about 24k miles iirc in August 2011 and it had the original stock battery. I installed a Shorai with a new VR and still ok with 32k mikes. VR is still in the stock location. Also fwiw, I have a small TT heat shield over the exhaust header.

I am in about the same boat. My stock VR did not fail with about 22k on it. I did, however, go to a LiPo battery about 8k ago. I replaced it preventatively with the MOSFET but left it in the stock location and I also have the TT heat shield.
