PC's Adventures in Pictures

We only planned a couple of stops.

We were more interested in riding and seeing the great scenery than being tourists.

We stopped for lunch at a place called Isaac's.
Just up the street from the Strassburg Railroad.







The dining area looks like a railroad car.



They have this thing for flamingos !

Isaac's is located at the Choo Choo Barn.

I guess that explains the train motif.



I know, I should have gotten inside and got my picture taken, right?



More great views even across the street.




From there we road to the Mennonite Information Center where they have a full size replica of
the Tabernacle that God instructed Moses to build after they left Egypt and camped at Mount Sinai.

This shows priest doing their ministry at the Alter and Laver.



The information center is located right next to the always popular Tanger Outlets.



You could not take pictures inside the rest of the tour but they have plenty of information for you to look at and buy.

-Top left is a painting of what the Hebrew encampment may have looked like.
-Top right is their representation of the Ark of the Covenant, which God instructed Moses to
put the Tablets that contained the Ten Commandments that God wrote with His own finger.
-Bottom is a view of the inside of the Tabernacle: left is the Lampstand, right is
the Table of Showbread, center is the Alter of Incense. Behind the curtain was the
Holy of Holies where the Ark of the Covenant was located.



Time to roll again, and head towards home.

The fabric shows the size of the courtyard for the Tabernacle.
This would have been its entrance.



We went through Gap, PA.

You can not miss their clock tower.



Took some great roads along a creek on the way home.



Camera battery died here so no more woodsy pictures.

Then we have the Tooth Fairies !



So that's what they put in your mouth to fix your teeth ! :huh







I found the old building across the street interesting.



That's my Batman angle !





It is an interesting sign.



But I could not find any information online.

I finally found one of these billboards I could use for my PC shot !!!

You have a collection of PC shots?

I was hoping to see one with the Dragoon on it.

Or the giant Lobster !!!

The poor PC Seat was getting raggedy!



And ripping apart faster and faster.

We could not believe how thin the original seat material was.

So, take it off.



There are actually two seats.
Drivers and Passengers.

The black flat thing under my seat is actually my gas tank ! :eek1
So when I got gas, I got gas !!!



Behind that is some electrical stuff and behind that is the stuff for the trunk.
Release cable, air shock to hold the trunk up, etc, etc.
The white label you see is actually inside the trunk.

The rear seat actually bolts through the side and not through the bottom.
I had an awful time getting those bolts back in there with the seat, hand rails and brackets for the GIVI.

The seat came out nice.





A light black, or really dark gray !, with some nice red stitching.



I finally got it back on and used it today.

They softened up the padding some and it felt pretty good.

A longer trip will be the tell TAIL sign of course !!!

I had it done by a local upholstery shop.
They did a nice job on it.
The front ends are sticking out a little bit but they should conform eventually, especially in this heat we are having !!!

Then there is my new toy !





Finally !!!!!!

It is a Garmin nuvi 2555LMT.

I was getting frustrated trying to get my routes from Google Maps to the GPS.
People on forums were saying they could do it, but I had no luck in the end of it all.



Computer stuff and terminology is a big problem for me.

People write stuff like you know what they are talking about.
And they do not use the same words that are used in the device you selected.
They use their own words and descriptions.
And ACRONYMS !! Oyyyyyy ! ...............................

Anyway, the GPS has its own Trip Planner.
It works pretty good, but it takes a lot longer than Google Maps does.

One of the problems I have is when planning a route THAT I WANT TO TAKE is that he GPS plans it's own route.
So I put stops along the way that I want to go.
But if one of those points is an intersection the Route stops there and only shows you the rest of the route several seconds after you get there.
So I just try to not enter any intersections where I have to turn.
Just makes routes more challenging and longer to install.

I have been using it in the "Vehicle" to get use to it.

I used it on the bike finally today.

Works pretty good.
Just can't hear American Jill when riding over 35 MPH !


I was ready to return it at one point!

OK, several points !!!!


But once I get more use to it it should not be as frustrating.........I hope !!

I plan on using it on our 100 Mile Church Ride this Saturday.



I'll bring the trusty ole Paper GPS and Paper Clip just in case !!!!!!!!!!

Love the new seat workmanship is really nice...hope its comfy for y'all...GPS too...wow you're catchin up Steve I used to have Garmin GPS but gave it up as it was too much of a distraction...i nearly ran into a car in front of me...while looking at where i needed to go...so just be careful about how much time you take to look at it while you're underway...

You are right, the GPS adds just one more distraction to riding.
Like people need more distractions while on the road !

That is one of the reasons I put the thing smack dab in the (lower)
middle of my viewing area.
I can see over it and it does not block anything that I haven't already
seen looking over the windshield.

I usually know where I am going anyway.
Most of the time !!!

This will help for my Church Rides and Bruce Runs so I don't miss anything.
I don't mind myself getting sidetracked, but I don't want to take a group in circles !

I am currently trying to work out BRUCE RUN IV !
I want to see more stuff in Bergen County and then go west into
Passaic through the hills and then down Clinton Road through
Morris County and then home.

You know I have been to 830 New Jersey Tag locations that I can prove with pictures ? :eek1
I was shocked at that number !

I have been by another 170 that I know of that I did not have time to stop and get pictures of.

And still so much more to see.

Amen to all that Steve...you and NJ are like the eneregizer rabbit...you keep going and going and going.....Vaya con Dios...

830 tag sites...thats pretty amazing...and theres plenty of things yet to be discovered or noticed...i would love to do another Bruce Run...

I agree with the comments about GPS being a distraction. I have a minor accident because of it. Be very careful and watch the road!

I hate distractions while I am riding or driving.

I finally got to use the GPS last Saturday on our Throttling UP Church Ride.
I will say it takes some getting use to as far as distance to a turn and such.

It worked out well though.

So the ride I planned for July of 2013 is the same ride I used in August of 2012.
That ride only had one other rider go with me, so I figured everything was interesting to see so why not try it again!

We had a total of THREE bikes this year !

But that's like 150% more than last year.


The weather was very nice.
A little hot if you had to sit still, but I keep moving.
No slouching when I ride !!!!

I really don't like reposting places I have been so I did not take as many pictures on this trip.
I share, because I care.

OK, it rhymed, so I used it !





I had hoped this guy was coming along with us.





Before we pulled out a couple of Classic Cars pulled in.



Then off to the C.A. Nothnagle Log House in Gibbstown.

The roads I took were back roads through some nice farmland in Salem County.
Beautiful ride.

Then we get to the Delaware Memorial Bridge area and head up Route 130 to Route 44.

Anyone who knows Route 130 it brings visions of nightmarish traffic and mayhem.
However, this section of Route 130 is not bad because everyone else is using Interstate 295 or the NJTP to get down here.
So we pretty much had the four lane road to ourselves.

Not as scenic, but nice not to have traffic.

We reach our destination.



The gray section is the original house from 1638.
That makes it now 375 years old ! :eek1

It is considered the oldest standing wooden structure in the Western Hemisphere.



It is a one room structure and very simple.



This was sitting on the fence where we parked.
Very comforting.



Then back to the bikes and off to the next location.

Next stop was Fort Billingsport.









The weather by the Delaware River was very nice.
A nice breeze was blowing and we watched planes taking off from Philadelphia International Airport across the river.

The black thing over the plane is a HUGE dragon fly taking off on our side of the river !



Up river you could see Philadelphia in the haze.
Mostly humidity I believe.



The remaining piece of land from where the fort was is sandwiched between two oil tank fields !





We parked in the little shade we found.



This is looking back from the entrance towards the river.
The group is to the left of that red roof in the middle of the picture.



This is not the nicest area, so I don't think any of us are going back for a nighttime visit !



On our way out we had to detour around a train sitting on the siding.



I don't know if any of you remember that chemical spill from the train hauling Vinyl Chloride.
The bridge that collapsed is off to the left of this picture only two blocks away !


What a mess that was.
One of the things NJ is best know for I guess !!!!!!!!!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, New Jersey !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

( Embarrassing because that is supposed to be a North Jersey Thing ! )

Next stop was lunch at the Woodbury Train Station that was built in 1883.

Turned into the Woodbury Station Cafe in 2009.



We ate here last year too.
And this year was just as good as last year !

I thought looking through this window was interesting, so I took a picture !





They had some old pictures hanging on the wall so I took pictures of a few of them.

Not sure this was here or not.
These pretty much ran out west on the flat open loooooong plains.

Next stop after lunch, and our only stop after lunch, as a group anyway , was Fort Mercer !

This is the new Battle Monument built in the early 1900's.



This is the old Battle Monument erected in 1829.



We walked down to the nice park along the Delaware River.

The bridge in the back is the double decker Girard Point Bridge that carries I-95 over to the Philadelphia International Airport, off to the left.

From here we were watching the planes land at the airport.



In the left of the above picture you can see a small island.



People were boating, jet skiing and not really swimming, but what looked like standing !



I thought of my daughter when I saw these going by.



And kayaking !



Off to the right is the old Philadelphia Navy Yard.





This is the USS John F. Kennedy Aircraft Carrier CV-47.
I do not remember seeing this last time I was here ! ?

Sitting down by the river was very nice and relaxing.
We didn't want to leave.

But, back up the hill we go to get back to our bikes.

This is one of the many cannons on display here.
The trench just behind it is part of the earthworks for Fort Mercer.



And after a short devotional we head for home.

After my riding partners abandoned me I went for the South Jersey Tag-O-Rama Tag out in the middle of nowhere.



This is, unfortunately, an unfinished Veterans Memorial.







Perhaps another Eagle Scout wannabe can fix it up better than it is now !



They set it up nice.



But it looks pretty much neglected.

These are disks for the branches of our military.



And it is out in the middle of nowhere !



I could not find any information about it online.

I have passed this quite a bit in my travels and I had wanted to use it as a Tag.



I thought this was the largest Lawn Ornament I had ever seen !

And I thought they were going to beautify it with some flowers and such.



But lo' there she sits atop a pile of rocks needing a mowing job.











I thought Hancock was a Super Hero that needed an attitude adjustment !

The getter of the Large Lawn Ornament earth mover took the Tag here.



This is Ancora.

That is Ancora Psychiatric Hospital !



I was not getting too close to the guarded gate.

I was afraid they might confuse me for an escapee !



I had been afraid to do this as a Tag because there are cameras all over.
After getting there I noticed there were none at this entrance, only at the one further down the road.

I found some history on Ancora that is pretty interesting.
I was in a hurry to post my pictures and I did not realize the history behind
the elusive hospital back in the Pines that no one wants to talk about !

If you remember that "Old Gate across from MVC Inspection
Station, Winslow" I Tagged back on page 41, the one covered
with poison ivy!, that was an entrance to a Tuberculosis Sanitarium
built in 1914 called Sunny Rest.
They had so many patients with TB back in those days that they
closed that facility and made a larger more modern one in Blackwood.

The Ancora Psychiatric Hospital was built in 1955 for psychiatric purposes of course.
They also have a Veterans Haven complex to help ailing and homeless Veterans on the grounds.

They once had a full community across the street to provide housing for workers.
That was entirely removed, including the streets !
I remember seeing some of it when I moved down here, but now all that remains are empty fields behind the pine trees.

I found that and more information on an interesting website.
Here is some information from that website.

"Behind the Veteran's Haven complex, as far as the eye can see, snake
high metal fences enclosing the adjacent grounds of Ancora Psychiatric
Hospital. Opened in 1955, its sprawl of buildings -- all linked by an underground
tunnel system -- was originally designed to house 2,500 patients. Those patients
were attended, guarded, counseled or treated by a staff of 400, almost all of who
lived with their families on hospital grounds in rent-subsidized bungalows and
dormitory-style apartments. Covering more than 650 acres, Ancora was a
self-contained community with its own laundry, sanitation department,
power plant, police and fire departments -- even a small fenced-in
pasture for 20 dairy cows that were part of the prison farm."
I found that here., and is a must read for anyone interested in Ancora's History.

I am glad I found that information.
Now I know.
