Well, thought about it, but still haven't found a solution! How to pack a guitar amongst all other thing on my bike!! Am planing a bit longer trip which would probably include working in the run to earn for gas! So i figure, year or more would be a long period without my favorite instrument, and by the way, I can earn money by playing along . Anyone tried? Successes? Ideas? Saw this one in pics thread, but violin is quite smaller!
Hey, when I go bike camping I usually take my soprano ukulele! It's not quite a guitar, but you are guaranteed to get a smile whenever you play =] I bought a cheap Mahalo uke (like $25 AU) and put some Aquila strings ($12) on it to make it sound like I'm not torturing cats, and pack it in a soft case on top of my gear bag. If I have a bingle, I've only lost a cheap uke which is replaceable anywhere. There are heaps of modern song tabs out there, and how-to's on line, although it shouldn't be a problem to pick up for a guitar maestro like yourself!
been thinking of some small guitars, but haven't try'ed if it's really guitars or just toys . ukulele you say, will be taken into consideration. And thanks for an idea! plus is if I have a bigle as you say that i don't cry over it (and i do have a binge hire and there )
just get a soft case and strap it on. granted, a banjo is a bit smaller than a guitar, but i didn't have any problems.
Saw a lad in bike gear playing the violin in Cardiff town centre a couple of weeks back. He was really good; concert level and was busking. He had clearly come by bike. What made it even more impressive was that it was an electric violin and there was an mp3 player/similar providing a backing track and he had a 12"x12"x12" amp too. :) I saw his bike a bit further down the road and it looked like he was a jobbing musician who happened to travel to gigs, rather than someone who was touring for a significant amount of time and took an instrument along with him. For me, a netbook is not only my camp radio, but with Reason 5 installed and a pair of headphones, a whole studio that comes with me on the road.
Well, it fits fine, I'm fitting the side cases this year. so maybe the full size guitar fits within the size of cases!
I have a taylor baby which is a 3/4 size and a soft case I have been considering A hard casefor the same reason It is quite a bit smaller but still bigger than a viola
Does a 3/4 fit on the top of sidecases? I mean, what's the lenght of 3/4, my bike with side's is about 115-120cm
The soft case [which is also called a gig bag] is about 36" I think the hard case would be slightly longer, I don't have the hard case to verify, but I know someone who does and I will ask them to measure it [it will be a few days]
Going for a few weeks or more without playing a guitar is not good for my emotional equilibrium. Being a luthier, I made a small camp guitar a few years ago, with a sort-of-mandolin-shaped pancake body and short string length--the effect was like playing a standard guitar capoed at the 4th fret. Instead of a case or a gig bag, I wrapped my sleeping bag around it, bungied the whole into a tight wad, put it in a plastic bag inside the Motofizz. This had the advantage of protecting it from violent changes of temperature and humidity as well as physical knocks, but casually strumming a few bars at a roadside pee-stop was out of the question. When there are other campers around, music is a great way to meet people and break the ice.The down side was that it still took up space--a lot of space--even if I didn't play it every day. Music rocks. M-P
A guy on a motorcycle with a guitar. Girls will be all over that. I'm envious of you guys who can actually play an instrument. And that was NOT a euphemism.
With time you can learn it too, it's a easy via youtube lessons really :) If you can go long distance travel, you surely can try out guitaring? :)
Yeah girls adore them, they heat up while you play, and then someone who's not playing take's 'em in their tents...
