I had my bench top made from SS for many years. I just changed it to two layers of 3/4" maple plywood. I never liked the metal, always felt cold and every time I worked on guns I had to cover it.
It'll puncture and scratch but if things get too bad, just glue another piece on top. You can usually find leftover pieces at custom cabinetry shops. If the scratches aren't too deep, you can use filler putty to hide them.
I have a steel workbench top, but I saved a sink cut-out from my bathroom vanities. I use it a lot when working on messy stuff or potentially nasty things (like filling batteries with acid).
That's all the encouragement i need to save the $$$ mine is doubled up too, but just regular plain old plywood.
Saw this neat setup for those of us without garages ( ) http://www.ikeahackers.net/2013/05/closet-toolshed.html
Why thank you! Unfortunately, I have to subtract a bum load of points because the crank is STILL in the corner, and not back in the engine.
LOL. He sneaks into lots of my pictures. As soon as I pull out the phone and start taking pictures of stuff, he gets curious.
http://www.advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=18818105&postcount=4718 Added a Lean-to to the side of my above garage . This part I built myself.
Nice job! I badly want/need to build a lean-to behind my garage, as well. Nice Ranger, too. Best truck I ever had (and I still miss it).
http:// What do you have in the Garage? I have a Pair of "Dirty Boxers." 1994 ('93) R1100RS w/ 40,000mi & 1995 ('94) R1100GS w/ 105,000mi. They're about a year apart by Production dates.
yep not a problem.. if you dont drag the motor over it with sharp edges/bolts sticking out, it will hold up very well.. and oh so easy to clean up... ill prob. end up using MELAMINE MDF board since formica is more work and more expensive.... i would have to put down 1/8" plywood anyways so might as well finish it in one process instead of a couple...
You've got me thinking... I sold my '94 RSL and replaced it with a '96 GS. But I miss my RSL for road trips... Seems like this would be a great combo and RS's are very affordable now.
Workign out of the carport and storage room right now. Plans to build a shop one day... maybe even a shop/house!!!
lol no not bourbon... its an old wine barrel the wife picked up... she loves wine (whites) and we are gonna make it a nice kitchen table once we find a piece of glass for the top...
I hate this thread.Damn thing is going to cost me some money.Wife seen me looking and shes like "why doesn't your garage look that good".Fine now i have to fix it up
Thanks, 97 2WD Ranger LB, bought new by my Uncle and was a hand-me-down to me in 2001. 116K miles, 3.0V6 AT with upgraded 4.10 gear and beefed up suspension. Mechanically excellent and Mobil1 since I've owned it. Side note about garage space or lack of. I recently bought a No-Mar tire changer on CL, actually swapped a revolver for it, and didn't want to leave it mounted to the floor of the garage. So I have this wood floor 5'x10' trailer and made me some 1/2" T-nuts and will mount the changer in the trailer when I need it. When I'm done with it I can unbolt it and store it in a corner of the garage. Secured the T-nuts from the under side so they're permanent. Most likely will get as much use as the trailer.
I used to do that, but, with a flatbed truck. I bought a No-Mar hitch mount and haven't looked back. It's so easy to just back the truck up to the door and the slide the changer into the receiver. Furthermore, it allows me to go to a customer's location to do their tires.
