As for re-tear-down, I don't know. Another $300 gasket kit? Out of my rapidly shrinking stash? Another week or more? Fuck.

I'm just going to change the oil a few times and hope like hell it gets me back to CA. What else can I do? When I left, I knew in the back of my head it could be the swan song for this bike.

I have all of the bolt, and the spring. What you're seeing is the inside of my clutch cover, so it's mostly soft aluminum. I'll post pics of that later (it's still on the bike)

    Welcome to Louisiana....from past resident.
Are you sure there is not liquor stores seems a staple you left out. If you get really drunk you can make pretend it is Bourbon Street just after that B!tch Katrina minus looters oh and you have electricity.

Sorry for the "character building exercises" you have been dealing with.

Well, the motel is in Port Allen, LA and I'm heading west.

I'm probably going to run to the auto parts store in the AM and get a 1/2 ratchet to run my new-to-me socket and another round of oil and dump it while waiting for the mailman. I think the 5 springs will get me there and back.

I do appreciate the offer of help. I'm hoping that I've got this, but I'm also not out of the woods yet. Parts still need to be swapped and a couple more flushes will make me feel a lot better.

At 120 odd miles west of here, I was wondering-

How's the tent space around Lake Chuck? Got facilities I could change oil at?

So, parts arrived yesterday, and I headed for the local O"Reilly's for another round of oil, and a ratchet or adapter to run my new-to-me 1/2" drive 1 1/4" socket. sstewart sent me his lockplate, making the job pretty easy. Swapped the booster and clutch discs in the parking lot, than headed for HoggJaww's for the oil change/tent space, 100 miles away. :freaky

If you look close, you can see the broken booster bolt. When that broke, this occurred:

The source of the metal in the previous pics

It's been 3 oil changes now (the above pic is from the very first clean-out), and it's starting to be a little less of an issue in my head. I have a good feeling about all this. I'm thinking the sump screen did it's job and kept the worst of the detritus out of the pump, and consequently the engine, as I have found very little in the upper screen or filters.

A couple more changes and I should be good to make it back to CA! :clap
