Looking so forward to this ride. Couple quick questions.. Registration and insurance only required at signup or should we ride with all our credentials? Is it ok if a friend rides one of my plated bikes? Or do we have to be matched to our bikes?

Law requires you to be able to produce your documents if you are stopped for any reason.

Can a friend ride one of my plated bikes since his bike is not plated?

    Hey SnoDirt Rider,
I noticed the past few years that fewer and fewer big bikes have been out on trail - I mean 650 and up bikes. Any idea why this is?

Last year I saw only two 1200s an 800 and two 650s on Saturday.

    Thanks,
    Jeff

The insurance issue could be a problem. He has to have his own that covers him on your bike or yours has to cover him riding your bike and you should have the paper work with you at sign up.

Easy enough to put them in a ziplock bag and stuff it in a pocket, or in your camelbak. :deal

I keep a copy of my health insurance card with me as well, just in case...

as long as he has a motor cycle license and your bike is legit, no dif then letting him drive your car. if anything happens its between you and the man. the hammer crew will check insurance and registration and want to keep it on the up and up, but nobody care who owns the bike, as long as its legal.

    True, dat!
The big bikes will have a ball on Saturday. Just avoid the hero sections
which will be marked on the route sheet and on the trail.
I have done the Saturday trail on my 1150 GSA with TKC 80's, aired down to
20 psi, NO bags or tail trunks, just a small tank bag for incidentals such
as: documentation, power bar, a water bottle, etc.
It's a work out for this 59 y/o codger, but it can be done and you will get
such a feeling of accomplishment that your tired bones won't care.
Come out and play like a kid. You'll love it. :clap

Oh, BTW, my "little" bike is an XR650L.
I'll be out here both days with my tow rope and a flask of gas for
anyone in need. Never been a Hammer when I haven't used both. :D

I am all in for this year's Hammer Run - I think this is the 6th or 7th time I have come down for it and have always been on a "bigger" bike.
    KTM 640 Enduro - 1 year
    KTM 640 Adventure - 2 years
    BMW XChallenge 650 - 3 years?

Oh yeah, I did do it on a BMW 450 but that was weird for me because I like bigger bikes as long as i can stay out of the way of the enduro crowd. I have noticed fewer and fewer bigger bikes and there are less people that can ride with and keep a normal pace.

I really hope there are some KTM 690s and 990s.

    Count me in,
    Sno Dawg

On a xr 650L its no problem to do all the hard stuff. That what I used to ride. Now I ride a xr 400. I was just as fast on the 650, just more tired at the end of the day.
