Or they want to blow sunshine and rainbows up your skirt about what happens, not wanting to recognize the nastyness that has(is) occured(ing).

Real life can be brutal as hell. It is unfortunate, but true. :cry

What's the saying? "History is written by the winner"?
That's why we normally have only heard half of most historical stories.

    Sure did.

    - Why not take this road? - a woman points at a road on a map.
    - Looks cool. Only 160 clicks so we'll make it before night.
    - And we will avoid the boring Batumi-Poti-Tbilisi road!
    - Yeah! Both roads are labeled in the same category as "state-road-well-maintained" roads. Let's hit hit!

Next scene, the engine guard of the KTM was sliding on the rocks.

Shortly after and i was kissing (for the first time in my life) the freshly paved road.

But tell you what... we were lucky. A couple of riders tried to ride the very same road a week before us but it was closed aprox. 100 kilometers from Batumi. So, yes, they had to ride all the way back. :eek1

    Did they fix this? :rofl

Great pics of the WWI sites. I hope someday there is a monument in the mid-east with a quote as profound as Ataturk posted in 1934.

For those who haven't seen it, a young Mel Gibson starred in a 1980's Australian movie titled: Gallipoli. Worth a look if you want a cinematic version of the events.

    hey sixdays
that first pic? to the right was a beautiful waterfall (snowmelt & rain)
running over the 'road' of course, about a foot deep or so, but I cant be sure, as by the time I got there, it was dark.

    :huh

    yeah. blacker'n a miners ass.

not much fun, but hey, its sposed to be an adventure, right?

I too saw the map, & thought 'that looks ok'

the good thing is, I had planned to take that route last year with the chopper, but missed the turnoff.
    :lol3

Would I do it again? hell yes! But not after dark!

(I almost thought about stopping to kiss that new tarmac!)

Friggin' great RR, impessive Pics, awesome Bike (normally I don't like Harleys because mostely ridden here by Dentists, Laywers and other guys you won't meet - we call them here Weekend-Rocker), and highly-interesting lessions (WW1) as well!!!

Cool stuff - keep it coming Doug (don't forget pics, pics, pics)! Wish you from the bottom of my heart a pleasant, funny and most of all healthy ride...

    What an adventure...:bmwrider

Right on! Makes my puny little 1500 mile loop seem like childs play, and it is in a big kid way...

I thought of this thread when I saw this pic and had to post it up here for your future build consideration...

You call your bike jacked up?! HA!!

Cool bike - but I don't wanna be a chaine slider or even a chain on that bike! The steep angle of the swingarm hurts...:yikes

Yeah, but not that much it would't eat the chain anymore... Or the suspension must be adjusted that soft that this bike would appear offroad like a wild horse or something like that

    Love your stuff Doug.

Have followed many of your rides, and exalt in the difference you inspire. Not a Hogg man myself but you quite evidently demonstrate anything is doable, & I love you for showing that and opening up to a wider audience.

Along with Striking K, you're me all time hard nut inspiration. Love you to bits, keep on cruising. Thanks so much.

    Well Thanks!

Tell CNN or someone to hire me. I see them reporters in all kinds of weird places reporting whats happenin. I want THAT job! Just drop me in there with a Honda XL250,
(something I wont cry over if I hafta leave it, plus, they are damn near bulletproof)
a camera, & a bunch of small denomination US banknotes,
(those are handy as information/get out of trouble tickets)
And I'll find out whats goin on!

    :deal

<BR>Hell yea you could do it! I like the visual of you dropping in with an XL250. But you know, with all the spit and polish of a CNN press pass, would you lose your free lance essence?
