It is interesting to see some guys having to adjust there valves more often than other guys. For example my valve clearances needed adjusting around every 5,000 km's. Only the intakes, the exhausts were fine. Other guys have stated that there's valve clearance does not move. This is when running the stock valve springs. I wonder if my installed height was more than the other guys ? All i know now is my clearance have not moved at all after 10,000km's with running the valve springs i am using now ( there NOT Kimble white ) There stock off the shelf springs for a Kawasaki Z900. In saying that i am sure i could get away with running a valve spring with less pressure. Why i say that is both the intake and exhaust valve springs that came out of the engine measured the same pressure at the same lift. But only the intakes showed signs of wear, they were trashed. The intakes are slightly larger in diameter so would weigh slightly more. Slightly being very slight difference. Also at idle the engine does have a rich mixture when using the stock carby, so i wonder if that is what wears the intakes out at first then the installed height increases for the spring and then with that happening the seat / lift pressure decreases and then the valve spins excessively and then reduces it's life. Why only the intakes ?
That is the problem with aftermarket stuff , they all claim that " the oem is prone to failure , our stuff is better " , but that is not always the truth . that is why i like the forums as you can find real peoples real world experiences with the parts . In this case i have to conclude that i never heard of any problems with oem valve springs nor the kibblewhite , they both seem good , that means the price should decide . Strangely the oem valves are priced differently , the exhaust valves cost more than the intake valves , the reason must be that the exhaust valves are somehow stronger/ better = more expansive to produce , the other companies have them priced at the same price , hmmmm interesting .
I think that the intake valves are made from lesser quality steel , hence they are cheaper , but that is just my logical conclusion , i know nothing
few questions: how many k's travelled in a safari if he has never tried wiseco rings how does he know they are no good.
Any of you guys who run the %$#^&#@#$% safari tank ever space the mounts under the tank with alloy blocks so the thing fits ?
The under the tank round plastic mounts that the rubber goes through and then the bolt, does yours have a spacer under those mounts ?
4 or 5 mm. made them out of the stuff I made the mud flaps out of for my rally car. I still have them here somewhere. seano gave them back when he got my old tank. ill go look
