I'm relatively new here (been lurking 'the perfect line' section for a few months) and just found this two-stroke section. I can't begin to tell you how overjoyed and amazed I am to find so much enthusiasm and love for the old smokers! Myself I started out on a Daytona Special purchased new in '79 and have so far been able to always have at least one out in the garage. This is my latest and greatest purchase! It's a 1990 RZ350F2, the last year of the RZ's in NA. The bike is completely stock (other than the master cylinder and braided front brake line) with 10,675 kms (6,633 miles) on the odometer. Amazingly, the original stickers are still on the tank, fairing and chain guard! So if I start it off would you PLEASE share some photos of your Yamahas!
Don't laugh to much, I don't think that this will ever see a public road, it's just my dyno mule. But still a RZ and I love it Glyn
Won't hear no laughter here GL... I think they're both works of art. The pipes on the last one... seems like almost a shame to let exhaust go through em! Would you mind my asking what kind of hp and tq gains you experienced and how long it takes you to fabricate something like that? I truly admire your skills! Lee
Hi Lee Thanks for the kind words The pipes on the hybrid took about five days from start to finish excluding the plating. From designing to fit then converting the sections to DXF files, cutting them out and rolling then welding. These pipes where designed to run with a Mick Addy tune, so should be a proven 68/70 WRhp and around 35 torque. The pipes on the dyno mule are for a +4mm stroke crank and will make 77WRhp @11k with 37 torque, I also have a road pipe for the +4mm stroke crank that makes 68/70 WRhp and just over 40 torque @9500k. My tranny is nice and quiet so far but if it goes anything that runs on premix would be a good replacement. My first choice would be a RD400 motor just to keep things simple. I'm sure Charlie could handle the swap.
This is my "barn find" 1975 RD350 that had 1850 original miles on it when I found it in a Craigslist ad last year. It did not look like this when I picked it up.....

i had 3 rd400 daytona's - ended up eventually selling them all. here's the one i held onto the longest, and sold last year.

It's a '74 Red, I agree about the simplicity of old bikes, glad you agree. Fun, cheap, and easy to work on, I call it good.
Ahh good to see a few of me old mates posting on here... Here are some of mine... My 85 F1, full restore from frame up, almost a runner now, just needs the full fairing painted... Mostly standard but R6 shock and PWK28s. My LC... just needs carbs and it will be a runner... almost done! Athena 421, Wicked pipes, RGV front and rear ends... many many mods...
