Riding down from Yucatan to Belize I got a break from the Spanish struggles in Belize (Ya Man!) Amazingly different in culture as you are thrown into the Caribbean way off life the minute you cross the border. Super friendly locals but I was itching to get to Guatamala and only had a 2 day visa http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCdw2_waNC0
Tikal was by far the most interesting Mayan site. I stayed for 3 nights in the Jaguar Lodge in the park trying to find out a little more about this historic place. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUPhlvllbE0&feature=youtu.be
I always wonder what makes people really believe in the religions the choose to believe in. Interviewed the Grand Poobah of a New Age group in Tikal who had hired a shaman. I'm not sure if I am any wiser http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1KrdNQQ3Sw
Fantastic ride report...thanks for the excellent editing and for posting your trip. It's good to give my modem a workout with quality content!
Thanks guys; It's a hell of a lot of work going through all the footage but worthwhile. It is fun and I will have something to look back on 10 years down the road.
Wow; yes you are putting a lot time. Vey well done and edited. Love the music. Are you planning any more trips after this one?
After leaving Tikal I rode to Flores, Peten. Worthwhile town to hang your hat for a few days.Got through the Honduras border much quicker than anticipated. Stayed in the northern dirty harbor town of Puerto Cortes for a night before heading south. Honduras is armed to the teeth (even kids) and one better be careful about where to ride and where to stop. I heard many horror stories from people I met along the way but thankfully I did not get stopped by fake cops and taken to fake police stations to be shaken down. The country side is actually quite beautiful but the whole place felt on edge. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kzv-r2_OWN0&feature=youtu.be
After Granada I spent 4 days and a white Christmas on the beach in Nicaragua, met some new friends Honeymooning on a Triumph Scrambler and reconnected with Peter in a bar. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uRlKYtSJ4k
It was a pleasure seeing you on AdvRider. You and I met in Granada, Nicaragua at the square and then joined you at your hotel for a drink by the pool and then we had dinner. Remember the young couple who also joined us? How was the remainder of your trip? All my best...Donnie MacKenzie
Hey man; Nice to hear from you. We unfortunately lost them later in Costa Rica. They had some major bike problems and were waiting for parts from the States. We had to carry on to meet the Stahlratte in Panama but spent some quality time together. Have not heard from them since but in contact with many people met along the way. What happened to you? You disappeared in San JUan and never saw you again. Diid you finish the trip? Slowly putting the clips together. Should end with about 40 in total.
Crossing the Nicaragua border into Costa Rica, the Arenal Volcano, New Years in San Jose watching the Zapote Bull Festival: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPgqoExB6so
Awesome ride, I am Following your reports as I am planning something similar into Central and South America. We have taken some of the same routes in North America from a past trip I took. Guatemala is beautiful and I am lucky enough to have traveled most of the country due to my Wife being a Chapina! Stay Safe
Checking out your post I found that I stayed in Hotel Hidalgo as well and had an interesting but non documented evening out on the town. Guatemala was wonderful.
One of my favorite rides of the whole trip. In retrospect I should have stayed in Costa Rica a few days longer. The country is breathtakingly beautiful, good roads, excellent food, lots of places to stay. Overall the most expensive Central American country but to me; "Youz gets what youz pay for" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D47agJsn5zY
I found Panama to be the least interesting of all the countries we went through due to deforestation and the fact that waterfront access is virtually non available. Most ocean front is owned by hotels & stinking rich private homes covered in STAY AWAY signs. Old Panama City was one big Kodak moment. You have to be careful where & when you walk through there but they are cleaning it up in a hurry with plenty of higher end restaurants & eateries/bars opening up. Getting ready for boarding the Stahlratte bound for Cartegena Colombia. We spend 4 days roaming this city of contrasts and the Panama Canal; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HICP8M4t2e4
Jan 14 crossing. 16 Bikes. Mostly perfect 3 days with the exception of 85% seasickness on the boat during the actually crossing. The San Blas Islands were just what they are supposed to be; Idyllic for a short time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7rPFhN2rW4&feature=c4-overview&list=UUhYHh6o1XTJMFvMeIdTrg8Q
