SG, No Baja for me this year, but the Blue Bus Boys are going down in a few days for two weeks of singletrack. I am hoping to ride around Arizona desert in the spring if all goes well...doing some bike prep, and Google Earthing like a fiend Very sorry to hear about your breaks....sound serious :huh :eek1 . I wish you a strong recovery...crashing and breaking stuff is no fun...
I'm going to call you FrankenGed from this point. :eek1 I've broken every bone in my body at least once in my 51 years of stupidity but have never had a staple job that extensive. Impressive... Ride safe. Everyone.
This is not the club I really wanted to join!!!!! Here's what happen to me a month ago. I thought I was JOE hotshot MX rider while I was riding here on a local course. A long story short....I went off one jump and landing on top of another. I managed to lose control and 690 ended up landed on the side of my foot, shifting my bones to the right.:eek1 This pic was taken on Monday (2 weeks after surgery). The DOC spent 2.5 hours using a bunch of metal and pins (notice them sticking out my 2 toes) to fix 5 fractured/broken Mantatarsals and a fracture ankle. I can't put weight on my foot for 12 weeks!!
Show us your 690 staples :eek1 Geeze Chris - pins out the toes look And 12 weeks is Thanks Ged - I'll recover but not as fast as I used to. These were beginning of 2011 (f8gs induced,) busted it again 4 months ago on 690e.
You guys are giving me the heebie jeebies with the staples this morning.:eek1 My last wreck a year and a half ago I broke 8 bones in 12 places. I did myself a favor and deleted the cell phone photos I took while in the E-room. Only saved the series with the cute little blonde radiologist.
u I got it from Twisted Throttle I believe. Can't find the reciept and they don't keep records on "my account.":huh It's the "RO" light gray model with the 28mm mount kit. Do you still have the stock mask installed? If so there are other cheaper options. The only reason I picked this one up is that I've got the baja light mounted. I'll get some photos posted up after lunch.
I still have the stock mask. But will be experimenting this spring with a double KTM wind screen affair. We'll see how it does???? Scout
I went an built my own screen. I modeled it off the touratech one, cost me about $40nz (about $30usd) all up. It came out pretty well, I had to adjust the height/angle a bit to get it perfect, and I also added some rubber padding between the arms and the screen to stop vibrations. Arms were made of an 3mm alloy (from an old external hard drive case) spacers for the top fork mount was made from the alloy in the base of a computer heat-sink, about 8mm thick.
This works nice- you can hide the fold down mirrors behind it, and also the gps mount. However the plastic mounts that the screws pass through are susceptible to breaking if you hit low hanging branches ect. I repaired & reinforced the mounts with adhesive carbon fiber/fiberglass cloth- then spread a gelcoat over it to harden it up. Works fine now, nice & strong and saved buying another windscreen. And whoa ChrisD- cover that thang up: Get well soon bud
YOWZA!!!! :eek1:eek1 690's held together by staples We have seen the damage done....how about those pics of "the cute little blonde radiologist"
I am running the husaberg for sandblast...I really miss the 690. while the berg is still quite fast it just feels twitchyand very short. It will be interesting.
Seth, A guy really needs several bikes Big Bike: Touring/easy dual sport Mid bike: Dual sport (690) Dirt: KTM/Berg ( or reasonable facsimile) As for feeling twitchy.....I feel like that at higher speed on the 690 in 450 conditions
Finished up my winter mods! If you can't tell that it's been modified, well, then that's a good thing! -Custom dyno tune -FMF Apex w/Custom made baffle -Evo1 intake airbox cover -G2 Throttletamer -Paul's LED tailight kit -KTM licence plate holder -LED rear turn sigs -Enduro skid plate -Gel battery -Swingarm spools
Sorry for my ignorance on this, I have only been looking at 690's for a few weeks, currently Im on a 2011 450exc and 2011 990R, but thinking pretty serious about adding a 690 for the middle of the road- just thinking at this point, my 990 actually does pretty good so the jury is still out on if I should spring on a 690. My understanding is that the 2012 690 is just bigger displacement ? Not sure if its just a larger bore, I assume so. I can get a 2011- for under 9K , but a 2012 will cost me closer to 10k. Is it worth the money to go with a 2012 ?
