I believe that the throttle side is vulcanized. As such, it is somewhat a PIA to remove from the tube. You can't just "peal" the grip off like you do on the left side. I tried a few things, but the 3M wheel to sand it off worked the fastest. Tale of th Free Handguards
Go to a place which sells auto parts and ask for vacuum plugs, select the right size and install on the port where the hose was removed, done. If for some reason you think it may come off, put a small zip tie around it...that's it.
Our DR200 also had the combination of relative low miles+long years=hard starting/rough running when we got it. I suggest remove tank and clean it. I had a lot of varnish/scale from old gas. Not cleaning the tank just puts you on a cycle of cussing and recleaning the carb. Then service the carb and clean it twice. I also added an inline fuel filter. Even with the initial fuel/carb issues...the DR has proven to be simple and easy to work on. We love this little bike! Now a great runner and solid smile machine.
Well found the problem...... cleaned it all out and installed a inline filter while waiting for new petcock... Removed California smog....and know the bike is doubled in power easily keeps up with traffic and cruises at 45mph thanks again for all the help everyone! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I am moving, and need to get my DR125SE up and running. Currently apart because the caliper was seized. I took it apart and can not get the piston to move smoothly. thinking I just need a new (used) caliper. Anyone have a good one laying around that they would like to get rid of for a decent price ? email me AKohler883 at AOL dot COM thanks !!
a while back you wrote: "I should add that I've replaced both front calipers and both petcocks on our DR200s. I could have opted to rebuild the calipers, but I got lazy and they're inexpensive. They started to stick because of severe service." Where do I buy a caliper, and how much are they ?
I got mine from bikebandit: http://www.bikebandit.com/2001-suzuki-dr200se/o/m5826#sch242848 for $123.61. I have the old corroded units around here somewhere, but I doubt you'd be interested because they're old and corroded. The new caliper is so cheap that it isn't worth it to me to fool around overhauling the old ones.
i found the part number, and did a search ... found for $101 at one place, and $108 at another. Problem is that my old P.O.S. DR is only worth about $800 (and I have over $1300 in it now). If I throw another $100 at it, i just keep making it more of a loss ... and it still runs like crap, and does not charge. At this point, I may be better off selling it just for parts. Very sad because I had hoped this to be a good project. Guess I should never buy a motorcycle for $500 in the dark again.
Sorry to hear that. It's worth it to me to keep putting money into the bike regardless of book value, because I've kept it in tip-top condition, so it's still like new. It's hard to wear the motor out. Why isn't yours running well? Carb still messed up? Have you figured out the cause of no charging? Stator or regulator/rectifier?
While trying to sort out my carb problems, I found the bad caliper which kept me from riding it. It took me a while to find a way to get the piston out. Now I can not get it back in. Carb is either not getting enough gas (main jet), or it is not getting enough air, or my exhaust is clogged. Charging system (stator and regulator/rectifier) was replaced with components from a low mileage part out on ebay. I put everything in, and it still does not charge. Very frustrating because nobody took care of this bike. And I inherited all the Problems. Dude that sold it to me said it only needed a battery, rear brakes and a tire. So far from the truth. after spending $800 on it ... so far
It is a 125cc. 1994-1996 DR125SE shared all parts with the 1996 and up DR200SE except cylinder head and piston.
