Looks like some loose sealant had clogged up the oil screen. Maybe some other goo too left in the frame even after my attempt to clean it? Who knows?

On the bright side, at least it didn't run an hour longer, leaving him to pack it out of Hells Canyon. :D

Since the frame screen was clogged you should play it safe and pull the clutch cover to check the screen in there also. Better safe than sorry.

Thanks Steve. Taco and I spent quite a bit of time flushing out the motor and cleaning the oil gallery under the screen through to the oil drain. A strange jeja vu sank in today as the reality of yet another top end rebuild unfolded:lol3 This bike project has taken on a life of it own.:lol3

Taco came over and helped me wrench in the top end:beer

I purchased a complete cylinder head off ebay complete with rockers, newly rebuilt valve seats, valves, OE Cam, and also ported and polished.

Not bad after a bit of clean up:beer Looks like this head was hot tanked and the overall condition is very good and ready for bolt in. Stoked to finally be running a OE cam with the auto decompressor:thumb

Head Complete - can't seem to find my feeler gauges tonight...:huh

Should hopefully finish putting the bike together tomorrow and hopefully fire up the motor. Wish me luck.

Had a fantastic 150 mile ride into Hells Canyon from the Oregon Side to a landmark known as "Doug's Bar" just about two weeks ago with the gang at the PNW Hells Canyon Campout. This was two days before the the piston melted.

    congrats eric, kick ass!

Its nice to see another xr with the powercore 4 idling, Im more confident now that Im all set jetting wise, just a tad rich, down low, but the idle on my 88 xr is very very similar...
