Gags is locked in for the CC ride. The 27th august is here say but the sooner the better for riding i say :evil.

Have been told that the time frame we want to travel is a good time to go, cold nights still but hopefully no wet weather :D .

Just watched 3rd & 4th episode of the Glenn Hoffman Racing campaign at the 2013 dakar, holy shit... that's one hell of a ride.
Managed to find someone with foxtel and commandeer the remote for an hour, this was much better watching than the usual feed on sbs as it documents Jake smith's whole event, and the 3 other privateer "clients" that went along with the GHR team.
The whole 4 episodes will air again next sunday at 7.30pm on Nat Geo Adv channel, will definately watch (cos I missed the 1st 2 episodes!)

I have crossed off the two weeks from my appointment schedule. I am in locked in too Eddie. I went North in August about ten years ago. It was only cold at night and not bad during the days.

And so there were three......any one else going to stick their hands up now? Time to get the whiteboard marker out and schedule a pre-trip maintenance program......check tools, spares, dehydrated food, and filter money from the budget into the slush fund :evil

How's the gps file looking? Any chance of a share?

I did the Casterton - Dartmoor leg last year, then ran out of daylight. Reckon I might take the CRF next time, not the big bike!

    Hi Jrr,

We have two sections to ride then the SWAT will be posted on www.transaustraliatrail.com.au.

I assume that we will alter the route from time to time to suit conditions.

Some sections won't suit big bikes, especially in the wet season. The beauty of using a GPS is that riders can find alternate routes to avoid areas that don't suit them. ( bogs/ deep sand etc)

A local pay it forward inclusion in our thread? Is this a good idea? Maybe once or twice a year perhaps?

    For example:

Mitas E09 21 inch tyre 99% tread left.
190cm snow skis ( shaped) yellow /black graffics: good bindings
Selection of 180/170/160 cm skiis on wall but my wife will kill me if I give them away!
Dri rider jacket blue used in 1996 for Simpson desert crossing
Dri rider pants with braces attached
    elbow guards
    knee guards
Fox tracker boots size 9 near new
    Fox Kidney belt
Alpine Star boots size 10( Tech 6) used by old man on Sundays.
    AGV MX8 helmet.

It would save postage if we can swap/give away stuff locally.

On that TAT site I think you can add a brief description, difficulty range, etc, where you might document that sort of stuff XR:deal
Can I swap a bald 21" front knobby for that E09?

Plus a disclaimer that the route was legal in 1990 and we haven't actually ridden it since, we just GPS -ed it on a map!!!

Add a MX helmet ( AGV 8 model) large size. Never crash tested. I should have worn it to the Little Desert trip!

WRT to bald knobby swap deal Wal, I think you are getting a poor deal. Seriously folks the E09 front is a great road tyre or hard dirt road tyre. It sucks on mud and sand.o
Wal check out the UHF radio question thread at the bottom of the page 1 threads. SOund familiar?

Ok step one towards the CC trip.........have my dates in.
Have nutted out rough maintenance schedule prior to trip and not expecting too much riding before then.

It's looking like a good crew sticking their hands up as likely suspects

Too soon for getting keen but half the fun is prepping, the other half's the ride, the destination is a bonus!!

Is anyone keen for a ride next weekend to do a bit of the Swat track from the top of T&W road to Casterton?

    Saturday or Sunday?

We will have to work on some detours on this bit since land tenure has changed since the 1990's.
