A Nice Tire Change Solution

This was posted by Desmofan, and I think it deserves its own thread. I hope this is not considered spam, I am posting this becouse this tool helped me in Baja, and is really a nice and easy way to get past the beadlock prob. that we have w/ our back tires.

looks like youd wrap and attach that wirerope to something on the opposite side of the tire and us it as a leverage point to use the beadbreaker? Otherwise it looks like a garden tool

I think everyone is right on with this. It could be a garden tool, and peace pipe. It also is a bit pricey. (it all depends on what its worth to ya to be able to easily fix a flat out in the bush)

The cable goes through the axle and then back through the spokes to be a leverage point.

Does the "use the kickstand of another bike" trick not work on these beasts?

I got the photos from, Desmofan, so we'll have to see if he wants to chime in.

Personally, I can get the TKC's off with just tire irons, but the Karoo, Baja, & Dessert are imposible due to there stiff side walls. This tool made break'n the bead on these tires a non issue.

It doesn't seem to care about collor, gender, or age.

I bought one of the bead breakers while at the Ouray rally. Did yours come with the wrench, spoons or did you get those seprate? The one I bought didn't come with them.

This device, or one quite similar was discussed on another thread in this forum a while back and the reviews were mixed. IIRC the criticism was that the width of the "pinch" is not sufficient to break the bead, e.g., a larger radius area needed to be pushed toward the rim on each bite.

Having said that, the product that is the basis for this thread seems to work fine even though the "bite" is not particularly wide either. For this reason I would love to hear more commentary on both of these products. I too need a solution and am undecided.

I have not used these other two beadbrakers,but I do see a problem w/ them.



They press on both sides of the bead at the same time; so when one side of the bead brakes free you no longer have any thing to pry aganst to get the other side to break free (...and you do have to break the beadlocks on both sides).



Also, it does look to me that this "cooper" tool does have a larger "bite" on the tire.
