I use a Quest 2 (which is basically the same as the Quest) because of size. I like that I can take it off the bike and slip it into my jacket pocket or in my tank bag. For some people, the fact that it's small may be a negative.

It works well in the car, too... voice prompts.

    Waterproof and internal battery.

My biggest complaint about the Quest 2 (I've heard the Quest does not suffer this problem) is that it can be really slow. The processor in the Quest 2 can't handle all the duties of a GPS at the same time, and you have to occasionally wait as it calculates a route or updates the map screen with your location.

I haven't used the other two models, so I can't compare.

got mine from a dealer on ebay. Everything came out great. PM me if you want a link to my auction.

I also got offered a 3 year warranty for 20 bucks that covers everything. Garmin don't offer that and I don't think you can get that from edgegps (maybe if you get it from them on ebay also). It was a square trade thing.

Well, there are some differences in size and some features but here's what I'd look at. The Street Pilot III is older then the Streetpilot 2610. The memory cards are only available from Garmin. I don't think they sell them anymore since it's been discontinued for two generations now. The card are limited to 512mb. The Quest has internal memory of 115mb and isn't expandable in any way. So you will have to upload new areas if you travel far. The 2610 uses Compact Flash memoory cars which are used in PDA's and Cameras so they are cheap.

I use a 2610 (bought cheap just as it was discontinued) for the car(s) and (for the past couple of years) a Quest for the bike. The Euro spec Quest has 243Mb of map memory (rather than the US 115Mb), but still needs maps to be reloaded fairly often depending on destinations. I bought a BFO memory card for the 2610, so that has pretty much all of Europe available.

Reasons not to use the 2610 on a bike:
    1) too bulky
    2) not sure about the touch screen getting caught in a downpour
    3) no battery option, so cannot use it (easily[1]) away from the bike, e.g. navigating on foot around an unfamiliar city, sitting in a roadside café, etc.
    4) can't be bothered to buy a bike mount for it

Reasons to use a Quest on a bike:
    1) the screen is big enough for most purposes, especially when back-lit and powered/charged by the bike.
    2) it is not a Quest2, so not horrendously slow to recalculate/redraw maps
    3) easily slipped in a tankbag/pocket, and usable on foot when hiking, walking or generally away from the bike. Battery life is good too.
    4) I already have a MvG Touratech mount for the Quest.

    Er..., that's it.

Thinking of a GPS purchase for a V-strom, would also like to use it in the car. Not looking to brake the bank and would like to keep it simple to use. Any suggestions to get me going in the right direction?

I've been thinking about picking up a GPS, but not sure which is best for under $500. I'm looking for something with easy to use button/navigation, large screen, waterproof, SD card expansion, etc, etc etc.
I'm sure there has been discussion on this, but I'm a Turtle and SLOW!

    Thanks

    Personal opinion reigns supreme there.......

Depends on how you want to use it and expectations.

    Need voice prompts?
    bluetooth sets?

How large a screen (how blind are you?)
    :D

I have a Garmin 60CSX and it rocks.
Use it mounted on my 990s with streets and topo (large SD card)
and for walking, hiking, dirt biking etc.

Have it hard wired when it is on the 990 Adventure...works like a champ.
    :clap
We live in the same town, could hook up and you could see/touch and form your own opinion on if it would work for you.

I have a 2610 and I love it. I have a ram mount for the bike so it serves double duty between bike & truck. They are having a sale on overhauled units for $195 here although it doesn't use SD it does use cheaper CF and a 2Gb card gets you the entire US. There are newer units out there but this is the one BMW uses for their OEM and its hard to beat the price.

Garmin, either the 60Cx or 276Cx. Both are very similar in function and price. Some slight differences that boil down to basically how they feel to you under operation. I have a 60Cx and previously had a 60C. Great piece of equipment for around $300.

I have one too, and I love it. Electronics HQ has it for $323.74 - free freight and no tax. The $50 rebate is good until the end of the year.

Check craiglist I bought a 60CsX for $250 and it was only 7 months old and the usb cable was in the unopen bag. The couple selling the unit were computer/gps/vcr dumb as they put it.

You do need to buy city Navigator for around $110 make sure you get ver8.

It does not hold much memory so you need to upgrade the card. Frys is having a sale on 2gb micro SD cards right now. The 2gb card is nice you can load all the states into it.

So far I really like my 60CSX it is nice and compact for hiking/Mountain biking ect.

Put a screen protector on it right away. I did not and the screen already gotten scratched UG!!

If a good used 276c comes on the market I would grab one of those I know I'm am. The zumo 550 is another great unit but at $600+ it out of my budget going to wait for used/refurbished zumo's to come onto the market and then may take the plunge.
