Love the '98 tank. Nice, clean graphic design and subtle, cool colors....

They just overdid it a little with the seat cover and fork gaiters.:eek1

    Thanks buddy.

I kinda' agree. The seat and fork gaiters are over the top. Still on the fence about the purple frame. Didn't really like the stickers on the side panels either, so I removed them.

I'm surprised you still have that fragile boat anchor of a tail light. The DR250 light is one of the cheapest, easiest and most useful mods you can make to any DR650.

Yeah, I've been kinda' lazy about doing anything to this one yet. I'm between jobs, so mods to the bike have been pretty limited. Don't worry though, once I get back to work full time, I've got a small list......

I had that bigazz stock taillight for a while, till I took a long fire road ride and it busted off, then proceeded to destroy my rear fender whilst it bounced around on it. So I was out the cost of a fender plus the new DR250 tail light.

Mine broke off but I managed to stop it damaging anything else. That DR250 light is so much better.

Just about.... Its smaller though and doesn't fall off at will. :D

The big tail light won't last even on pavement. The dealer fixed mine once before the warranty ran out. It broke again in about 5k. The 250 light has been trouble free.

A couple of Neduro's DoubleTake mirrors would finish that off nicely. When (not if) you drop the bike, the stockers are the first thing to break.

OK, I got a new set of Dirt Skinz to replace the tired old pair that came on the DR. I used the zip-ties that came with them to hold them in-place. When I dropped the DR off the center stand yesterday, both Skinz proceeded to pop right off the lower legs (in other words, the zip-tie didn't do its job).

Full Disclosure: I have a fork brace on the DR's forks so that the area to attach the Skinz is probably 1/4" to 3/8" (above the brace).

    This one:

Should I think about ditching the zip-ties and going with a gaiter clamp instead?

    Like this?

Perhaps there's another trick to keep them from popping off?

    TIA.

I had those on my last DR and never got them to stay put. They also seemed to collect a lot of dirt and I had to clean them regularly. I used the stock metal gaiter clamp because i had to clean them so often. I wont use them again, I will get new accordian style gaiters.

have you tried using the fork brace itself as a clamp?
